Connecting Xbox one to campus wifi

I brought my xbox one to college because I knew I'd be getting destiny for it while I was there. But when I tried to connect to the campus wifi with the same password I used to connect my iphone, iPad, and laptop, it wouldn't go. Any general tips I could try? And before anyone throws a fit, my education is my first priority. Gaming will come later with any free time I have. ***Edit*** I was recently informed that my college doesn't allow consoles to connect to the wifi at all. I will have to wait until I can get a wired connection. Thank you for help everyone!

I had this problem at uni. Many campuses block gaming consoles from connecting because they are misinformed and believe them to be bandwidth hogs. My solution was to simply connect my xbox to my PC via a bridged connection, and then just connect the PC to the internet. Boom, unblocked. If you want to know how to do that: -You will NEED an extra ethernet port on your PC, if you don't have one to spare, like I didn't, you will need one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Ethernet-Adapter-Black/dp/B00ET4KHJ2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1408831589&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+ethernet+adapter -How to bridge a connection to your Xbox console: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/networking/connect-live-using-pc The reason this works is because your Xbox is using your PC as a proxy to connect to the LAN. Basically, all the router sees is your PC connecting, even though it is your Xbox using the internet. DISCLAIMER: Obviously this will only work while your PC is turned ON and connected to the internet. You're welcome and good luck!

    • When I lived in a dorm the wifi only allowed us one device per student so that meant one MAC address. I changed my Xbox's MAC address to match my laptop's and it worked perfectly.

    • Another way is if your college allows you to register device B from device A. My friend at his college signed in on his laptop (device A) and went to the webpage used to register devices. He then registered his xbox's MAC address (device B). It then let him sign on with his xbox. Ask around your place. $20 says someone knows how to do it.

    • My college has a username password which needs to be entered everytime you sign on. Its because huge networks like that tend to use webpage protection rather than having everyone connect straight to the routers it goes through a web authorization, mine is cisco. Consoles dont allow this type of authorization as far as I know and your best bet will be piggyback off another device like a mobile hotspot.

    • I brought my own WiFi router and plugged it directly into the internet jack in my room it was loads faster than the campus WiFi and it uses your own password. So no issues there.

      • Plug your Pc into the net port and copy down the ip, DNS, etc. then plug in your zbox and manually enter all that info in. That's how I got mine to work when I was in college.

        • Get a Windows laptop (maybe a Mac, but idunno how to do it on those). Connect that to your campus internet via the WiFi. Bridge your wireless card and ethernet port on the laptop. Connect your One to your laptop via an ethernet cable. Go online and play games.
You're basically turning your laptop into a WiFi card for your One.
• Depending on your school, you may or may not be able to at all. But if you attend a university like mine, you probably have to email the IT Department at your school about it and they will more than likely require the mac adress of your Xbox and the name of the device and will then allow you to connect. At my school however I have to be hardwired into the network to use my PS4, it does not connect over wifi. Best of luck to you!

When you connect to the wifi do you have to accept some type of terms of service?(via your phone) Some public places do this.

            • May need to go to Web browser to accept terms. Or change your systems code to that of your laptops. Just can't be on both at the same time.
