Yes we are..THE MEN'S DEPARTMENT

Why is that a bad thing? And yes, they're still their own branch.

Most marines I know hate it when you tell them that they are part of the navy

Because they're not apart of the navy. They are in the department of the navy, but not part of the navy branch.
