Servers are bound to be up a few days before launch to get everything online. Friends and family of Bungie will no doubt get the game early and already be online by the time we pick up our copy.
People keep saying it will be midnight, this is just for the digital release.
It'll be online.

I thought the servers go online midnight of release, I've heard that everywhere.

I have no facts. But I would think they would have everything online and ready before millions of people attempt to connect. It would be very silly and unprofessional if they let everyone bottleneck onto the servers at midnight without preparing for it.
