No private matches or clan matches (Source included)
Destiny has no private matches at all. Proof provided by this youtube video above, go to 1:15:00 he says private matches aren't in the game and there aren't clan battles either.
This company would be literally stupid to not add this.
How will clans work without custom games?
How will friends play against eachother?
How will any tournament exist?
How will people train for matchmaking?
How will 1v1s be possible?
Honestly without custom games this game is pretty dead, there will be no competitive scene at all because there won't be any chances to prove it. I've played Halo for years to know that custom games are something I do every day and is very important. While this isn't Halo, it's important.

Edit: Stop attacking a straw man and don't put words in my mouth based on what you assume. I bring up valid points. While you may not want a competitive scene in Destiny, it should be there. I don't think Bungie hired a competitive lead and said they would take steps towards making competitive gameplay for nothing. There is a ridiculous amount of narcissistic replies saying how they're thankful they don't have to deal with "competitive players" ruining their game. This is so pathetic.

People who say "competitive players ruin the game" are just completely ignorant. We do not ruin the game. Infact if the scene gets big enough WE make the game more popular in a way. Just because we are beyond average in skill and actually try and care about winning doesn't mean were ruining the game. It means the kids who bitch about us are either jealous of our skill or just blindly hating on us.

How will clans work without custom games? Another word for a clan is a fireteam. I have been told if your the leader of a fireteam you can drag your whole fire team into what ever you choose to do. So if your fire team is clan members it would stay together in multiplayer. How will friends play against each other? Based on the Beta then only way for friends to play each other is to join a talking party and everyone joins multiplayer without being in any fireteams to start with that way some are on your team and some clan members are against you. How will any touenament exist?The Beta didn't hold any Touenaments. There is a lot of closed doors in the Tower yet to open where the Iorn banner was. Let hope one opens up with Touenaments hosted by Bungie. How will people train for matchmaking?Be in a party so only your clan can here you, invite the clan to a fire team, Drag the fire team into multiplayer and pretend all other people are NPC's as a group you can share ideas so you can learn to play better. How will 1v1's be possible? You will need to pertision Bungie over this one as there is no 1v1 for any game mode.

Shared world= no private games. Have you seen the Trials of Osiris? Seems the only way to see Mercury is to be a pretty hard core PvP guy. I'm willing to bet they do clan tournaments4 on their terms.( which may or may not cause time zone bitching) If the developers play as much as they claim, they'll be on top of shit. Iron Banner was a test, they've gotta be able to throw crazy shit at us. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I have faith. [spoiler]all I know about Halo is my little brother and his friends destroyed me in splitscreen. That and I thought for years it was High Altitude Low Opening(Jack Ryan lied?)[/spoiler]

You are viewing the game wrong, just like I did at first. It's Ok, many are. Like skiing, you are trying to FrenchFry, when you are supposed to Pizza, and by doing so, you are gonna have a bad time. Did you listen to the video you posted, or did you just cut to the part where you posted in the timeline? It's brought up that the PvP aspects are not the focus of this iteration, and the only real concern for PvP is nailing down the core gameplay for PvP. It was also stated that the Expansion, will include PvP as well as PvE additions, and gear. Now I have no clue what that means, maps, game modes, private parties... but it shows that there's a possibility of this stuff being added later, after the PvP is where they feel it can be expanded to a more competitive level. Again, it's all pretty damn cryptic, but worth mentioning, as it could be something, or nothing.

Customs can be fun for anyone. There are several shooters where I've played custom games by myself for hours on end just to learn maps and all the cool jumps/routes you can take. I've also played countless customs at gaming nights with friends just to have a good time. Also, how will we test all our new weapons from PvE against people? It'd be 1000 times easier going into a custom and testing out your new loot than going into a crucible game. I haven't read a single good argument for private matches hurting Destiny. As far as I can tell, it can only help. What's wrong with giving a little to the competitive community anyways? That's a huge chunk of people that not only play the game, but people that keep the game going. I love Bungie and I enjoyed the Alpha and Beta immensely, but if they don't add customs it's going to drive so many people away at a fairly quick rate.

Bungie please give us custom matches, it will help to drive customer participation for competitive multiplayer. Competitive multiplayer will add retention and a steady influx of new competent players to the game. This will also allow clans to have functions with their clanmates to retain interest in being part of a clan. Because I had a group of 5 friends online during the beta, yet the only thing we could all do together at the same time was the PvP content as the small size fireteams (maximum of three) for anything else in the game other than raids was quite limiting.
