I like your post. I think the most important point you brought up is being emotionally capable. By that we are looking at them through a human lens. Emotions, or what triggers them would have to be nurture rather than nature. If they are truly independent and free thinking, it is only natural to have at least two opposing forces, including the belief or disbelief in what us guardians are trying to accomplish (Bad guy EXOs from a Guardian's point of view). This would be true even if they all learned the same thing. Of course if you threaten them with disassembly. I think this would be the only possible explanation for 100% of the EXO population being compliant.
a vague final analysis would be they are moderately intelligent. They can fly a ship, carry on a conversation and fight. Interaction with other entities are basic. They dont feel pain and any expression that would seem either positive or negative would be imprinted in a memory bank to react as such in certain situations rather than a chemical reaction that is naturally triggered in nature for a reason or purpose. Of course it would still suck for us humans to lets say watch an EXO die. It would register to us as distressing in some way and we would feel despite the EXO having an automated response to it dying : EXO "I.... feeeel...... sooooooo....... cooolllllldd...." Guardian "Stop it, your a robot and we can fix your brain when we get back to the tower" We are looking at this too humanly. Sorry to ruin some peoples parade but dogs dont smile and neither do dolphins. :)

Yeah, it was stated as a prerequisite assumption even in the post. We don't know where their programming ends or how effective it is at emulating instinct. Its not for sure, but you can't really rule it out. After all, the Exo were designed by humans (the ones at Bungie)

Thanks, I appreciate your perspective. It made me give everything a second thought. Why say these things if not to promote discussion right? I'm right with you on that other stuff. Looking forward to all that knowledge. #TheHunger
