It would be awesome to be able to buy a katana and later upgrade it to be a katana filled with energy from the traveler and set fallen and enemies on fire or just slay them in general.

I think sword should be a temporary weapon. It shouldn't be in your inventory because it undermines the ammo system that balances the whole game but could be held until you switch weapons or summon vehicle.
