Here's everyone's argument: no to matchmaking, because it is impossible with randoms. Here's the reality: raids will be more difficult, but not impossible with randoms. I am no WoW raider. Maximum raids I've done was with randoms in DCUO, so the parties weren't too big. And can you believe that I managed to beat them, with randoms, with minimal communication? Of course not, because you think everyone's retarded, that they do not read guides, and that they are going to LEEEROOOYYYYY JENNNNKINNSSSS every time you get into a new area. The truth is that people will read about raids, and take hints and tips from different locations, whether guides or YT. Now unless they make the raids as punishing as Dark Souls, where a single mistake dooms the whole team, then there is no reason as to inhibit matchmaking. OH NO. MY WHOLE TEAM IS DEAD. LET ME GO REVIVE THEM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE BATTLEFIELD. No. You wait for the 30 seconds to pass. It's that simple.

Here's the reality: raids will be more difficult, but not impossible with randoms.
The thing people like you are missing is that it isn't just about whether or not a Raid can be completed using randoms for MM. It's about all the other baggage a MM system would bring with it. It would completely change the experience and atmosphere of what a Raid is about. Bungie isn't treating Raids simply as a difficult equation that needs to be solved, they are treating it as a whole experience, and they should. The famous saying, "It doesn't matter if you win or lose, but how you play the game," comes to mind here, and seems that Bungie (at least to a degree) has followed a similar philosophy. They want you to experience Raids a certain way - the way they are designed to be played. Unfortunately, people like you seem to be treating Raids in the complete opposite mindset - "It doesn't matter how you play the game, as long as you win."

Amazing. An actually educated reply on these forums. Thank you. Yes, raids will definitely be a unique and memorable experience when with friends. However, a matchmaking system will not affect you if you have your own group of friends. On the other hand, it might (will?) affect an individual who doesn't have the time nor patience to make a raid party. Without a MM system, the individual will have zero exposure, and thus no memories of raids in all their glory. With a MM system, the individual will have an experience. Lesser, true, but isn't something better than nothing? It might even cause someone to actually try and form a party, eventually.
Without a MM system, the individual will have zero exposure, and thus no memories of raids in all their glory.
Trust me: if you pug a raid, fail spectacularly, and never try again, you don't remember raiding as "glorious." You remember raiding as the most laborious, frustrating, soul-sucking experience you've ever had the displeasure of participating in. MM is a turn off to everyone involved whether or not you or I or anyone believes that it's a pretty idea.

That is true; few things can be as frustrating as trying something over and over and failing miserably. To add insult to injury, there is nothing you can do about it and it will be most likely impossible to single handedly carry a whole team. However, shouldn't one have a right to be frustrated, as long as it doesn't frustrate everyone else? If one can be frustrated to a certain degree, it might ruin their overall gaming experience, but can't it also provide an inner desire to actually find a team and do the raid? Trolls would definitely ruin the experience, yet this can be solved by using the rather unknown kick option which is present to the fireteam leader. To prevent abuse, use a voting system for kicking someone. Maybe?
