  • In terms of online multiplayer fun: Halo CE ? Halo 2 = Halo 3 > Halo 4 > Halo:Reach I've never really played Halo CE online, but I'd like to imagine it was rock-solid. I played CE on PC a few times in 2006, and every time I had fun, but I lagged a lot due to shit-tier internet, so can't really report on how good the game is. Halo 2 was a lot of fun, and although I can give you a list of very real problems the game has, that never seemed to detract from the fun of playing the game. Halo 3 is probably my favorite Halo game, but that has more to do with Forge, Customs, and Theater creating a game that felt like it was more than just a few levels... God... Halo 3 had an amazing community around it. Halo 4 wasn't an awful game, but too much of the sandbox conflicted with the core concepts of Halo ... that, and vehicles were made of paper... and then there is Reach .. Reach was ... Is ... Well, It does have Halo in its name. I don't circlejerk hate Reach, but its just a badly designed game. How Armor Lock got past concept stage into the beta, let alone the full retail game, is beyond me. Then you got things like bloom which just makes no damn sense. Vehicles health being finite meant rushing with a vehicle was literally the only viable tactical option you had, but that seemed to be the trend with Reach.. I wasn't very constructive towards actual skill. If you fought for the high ground, the enemy would just respawn with jetpacks. If you got the flag away from the enemy base, they'd just respawn with Sprint and catch up, if you controlled all the power weapons, they'd just use camo and camp, and on and on... But underneath all those bad mechanics, you could see this really awesome game that was potentially better than Halo 3, and sometimes, rarely, you would catch a glimpse of that. I can't blame 343i for trying to make that formula work, but it fell flat. It might have been more polished, but it just doesn't translate to Halo with all that. Maybe in an invasion like gametype, loadouts, armor abilities, even perks and ordnance drops might work, but for the majority of the game, Halo should be all about equal starts and balanced gameplay, and I honestly think they get that.
