I would say IF bungie implements this (which they won't because they are very set on you earning your own gear) they should only allow a 1 for 1 trade. Meaning you couldn't trade more than one item. I mean, who is going to want like 5 level 7 helmets when you are level 11? If you tried dismantling your gear you would know that you get VERY little glimmer back. Meaning most unwanted gear is worth like 9 glimmer and maybe some materials. So IF bungie does it, it would only work in the way you described. I would say that maybe at the end of a strike or story mission or even a raid, where you see everyone in your fireteam and all the items they earned as well as the ones you earned it could give you the option of trading with someone else right there so that you all can earn something from the same boss, which would mean you still would have earned it because you beat the raid too. Even then, you would all have to be close to the same level.

im fine with no trading. im just tired of people using the excuse "its not earning it if you trade it" when in reality most the gear you get in the game isnt really earned at all, its all based on luck. i can go into a strike and kill 90% of the enemies as well as as take out 70% of the bosses health and get next to nothing. where the guy ruining around dying 50+ times killing maybe ten guys and inconveniencing me gets all the rare loot and drops. how has he earned that? edit: i actually took it upon myself to test this. here is a post what i found http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/67030094

  • That's like saying that you don't earn a victory in D&D. Sure there is luck, but the only way you can get items is from killing things and beating missions. That is how it is earned. You know the question, "Whoa, that's cool, where did you get it?!" Saying "I traded for it" is the worst answer ever. Super lame. Bungie obviously understands this concept, and they don't accept Lame-ities in their games.

  • its not the only way. as long as you stand in proximity of a battle theres a chance a mob killed will drop an item for you. you dont even have to participate in the battle.

  • You have to not die I guess? Also, who would just stroll around in a game that is about destroying evil monsters and watch others kill things just to get the loot? That doesn't make any sense. You have to play the game and you have to get somewhere to get the cool stuff. If you suck and your fireteam does all the work, then yeah, you were carried and now you have cool stuff. That won't happen often though. Not often enough for it to matter.

  • i did it because i noticed beasts i didnt shoot at were dropping gear for me. so i wondered if i did hit them or not. and it doesnt even have to be your fire team, if you just stand in prox of any guardians battle then you have a chance at a drop without even having to fire a single shot. its a really bad drop mechanic. the game is fun. that mechanic is just not right for a loot based game. they should reward skill not luck.

  • I guess Bungie just assumed that if you are in close proximity then you are participating in the fight. Because that is the point of the game. To defeat enemies and things. I think the fact that sometimes you don't have to do damage to a monster to get loot from it is a good way of encouraging teamwork. Then if one person on your team storms through and kills everyone then you won't get anything from it. People could essentially steal all your loot if they are just a couple of levels higher than you or better than you. This could turn out to be an extremely negative experience. That's why everyone has a private loot stream and why you can get loot from enemies if you are close. Also, the luck part of it makes you want to kill more things and it makes you want to kill every single thing you see, just because they could possibly drop something good. I think it is a great system.

  • they could have this same effect by rewarding only players that hit the monster. the fact that some one can effectively do nothing and still has a better chance of getting loot then people playing the game just because they are luckier is infuriating.

  • No, they couldn't have the same effect entirely because if one person was sitting back and sniping everyone while the shotgunner is running to the fray, the shotgunner would effectively get half of the loot of the sniper. Thus, people could "steal" loot from others by killing everything before the lower-leveled players had the chance. Also, If your fireteam members unload everything on the spider tank and you spend your time taking out all of the cronies around for your teammates to restock, you should get credit for the spider tank kill. It promotes teamwork man.

  • i dont understand the shotguner vs sniper part. but the guy clearing the cronies would get all the loot from them and need not be concerned by the boss loot... not there is ever any boss loot.

  • You aren't understanding anything I am saying. It promotes teamwork if you all get loot for everything you kill. If it was more likely to get more loot simply by killing more people then some people would only go for the dregs and get all of the loot while their teammates died trying to kill the boss without their teammate.

  • thats how it usually works for me anyways... most the randoms i play with dont even know to shoot the legs on the spider tank. and due to the lack of communication i cant tell them.
