Thoughts? That is one small step away from pay-to-win, pay-to-progress DLC.. ...and I am an adult with a job and responsibilties away from the console. You're perfectly capable of getting that same machine gun IF you are willing to put in the time to get it. Either by killing monsters, or waiting for it to show up at the gunsmith or cryptarch. I'd rather just accept slower progress in this game---and have that progress still MEAN something---than have it watered down by, essentially, buying it.

  • you just suggested buying it at the shops though... and for as far as that with time spent comes items logic. if you look at my warlock i have about 20 hours put in. and in that time only 2 green lmgs were dropped. in that time not a single class specific item was dropped.

  • Thats why you have the Vanguard mentors, the Cryptarch, and the Gunsmith. If the thing you want doesn't drop as a result of battling monsters, you'll still level up in "reputation" and earn "vanguard marks" by clearing bounties so that you can eventually purchase what you are looking for. You still will have earned it. That is not the same as someone doing a high level strike, and then simply bringing back a powerful weapon and handing it to you. But it can be frustrating I spent about 8 hours with a titan on a XB1 account trying to get a good auto-rifle...because I kept getting stuck with pulse and scout rifles. But that is a fundamental part of the PvE playing experience in loot-based games...so why would I want to by-pass it or water it down?

  • did you read the post fully? the method of trade i propose does not allow for a something for nothing trade. i would have to trade something of near equal rarity and value in order for the trade to clear.

  • I read your post...and no matter how much glimmer you fork over, it is still a "something for nothing" trade in the eyes of the game's developers. They want the good armor and weapons to only come to those players who show skill in combat either against the Darkness or against other Guardians in the Crucible. Which is why you can only unlock them---even with the vendors at the Tower---by clearing bounties. Which demand you show skill in combat. Not just run around on your Sparrow, ducking firefights and glimmer farming. If you've put in the actual time to earn such an object, then you can also just purchase it from a vendor in the tower if you are willing to wait.

  • i didnt say trade glimmer for gear, i said gear of equal value for gear. so like if you have a lvl 15 rare bazooka, and i have a lvl 15 rare macine gun. we could trade those.

  • If even you do trade equal for something equal, then that essentially means that anything you don't want turns into something you want, at absolutely no penalty. That is unfair. Unfair to those who go through the same chance you do to get stuff they want, where you get something you don't like and it instantly becomes what you want it to be. You have a low chance of getting the gun you want, but with trade, it would become 100%. That gives an unfair advantage over those who spend time getting what they wanted the way Bungie intended.

  • the drop mechanics as they are right now is "unfair" i can just stand in proximity of a battle and not fire a single shot but still have a chance to get a drop where the person doing all the fighting could get nothing. i went into a strike mission, did most the killing, pretty much killed the bosses by myself, and i only received 2 engrams. while my friend who was talking on the phone and just running in circles on the battle field got 5 engrams and various weapons and armour drops. he had 10 kills at the post strike results board. so how is that fair?

  • It's all up to chance on whether you get the loot or not. It's all calculated into a rate of probability and chance. If you didn't get the loot you wanted, do it again. Why not? It's only going to help you get stronger.
