Canary Error Code Problem (Xbox One)

After around 5 minutes of playing the Destiny Beta, the game tells me that I don't have good enough internet connection to play and gives me the error code "Canary", this happens every time I attempt to play the game and I have tried everything that people have said to fix it. I have tried hard restarting my console several times, I have tried to reset my router, I have tried deleting and re-downloading the Beta. However, none of these have worked which, as you can imagine, is extremely frustrating. Also, when I checked my internet status and I have great connection with amazing download/upload speeds and a low amount of ping. Any new ideas would be greatly appreciated...

  • As of 0545 25 July 14 Bungie time, it seems like two versions of Canary. 1) the first version is that you cannot connect to the servers at all. This version won't let you move into character creation and you're stuck just past the start screen. A fix for many people is to do a hard reboot of the Xbox One (hold down the power button for 15 seconds, the console shuts down, wait for a minute then start back up). If it still persists, repeat and unplug your console for a min, then start back up. This should resolve Canary. 2) The second version appears to revolve around a particular modem/router. The system allows you to start a game and right before you get to a checkpoint, Canary shows up. Finelicker has a solution here:
I've had the widely reported problem with the game disconnecting after 10 minutes (VIRGIN SUPERHUB 2) with the canary error. I've tried everything advised but nothings worked so far, apart from the following. I've been playing for several hours no with not one problem or diconnect. Go to your xbox 1 network settings and establish which of the two networks you're on. (either the 5ghz or the 2.4 one) The go to your PC browser and login to your router settings 192.168.0.1 (password by default is changme) Go to advanced settings then select Wireless radio you'll then see three speed options for each bandwidth, the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz. My xbox one was on the 5ghx channel with the speed set to 450mbs, I selected the 54mbs option and applied and saved. Your xbox will then disconnect and re connect to the network as your router applies the settings. Once done, happy gaming :)
Alternatively Bambusbieger suggested the following:
As soon as the error message pops up (right after starting the game in my case), press the Xbox home button and head over to the network settings. Run the multiplayer test and wait for it to finish. Press A, return to the homescreen and close Destiny. Wait a couple of seconds, then launch it again. There error message should be gone now.
NathanLHD's thread HERE is the main thread for solutions so keep reading here if you have more issues. We are still investigating the issues but for now these are the fixes available. Hopefully this works. Hats off to Fine and Bam for solutions, to Nathan for keeping this thread going and for I Pye for pointing me towards Fine's solution. Get the word out so we can be Legends together. See you starside. JTS

    • Hey there, so I have tried all the different ways to resolve this issue but no matter what whenever I try to get past the title screen I get the error message. I've had a friend bring over their PS4 to see if it had the same issue running on my internet but it worked perfectly without a problem. I use Comcast as my internet provider which has given me issues in the past but I have resolved those issues and every other game I try works perfectly. If anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this issue please post them, because if this isn't fixed within a week I'm just going to take the financial hit and trade the game back in.

    • Hi, I have this exact problem with the final game. Bungie you need to acknowledge this as a problem and fix it.

          • I have been having the canary issues since the beta was released on xbox one. Needed to do hard boot to get it to work. Works every time. However, I have to do a hard boot EVERY time or the game won't load, and will just give the canary issue. I had similar problems with titanfall earlier this year. After that headache, i spent hours until i got my NAT into OPEN behind a CONE nat, which is the most open it can get. I checked, and my system is still behind a cone nat. Bungie needs to fix this soon. A hard boot every time is not a solution to an error on their end. Everything else tests fine

            • Just connected to the router using cable instead of wireless and completed a hard reboot of the Xbox one and that's sorted it out :-)
