SO MUCH FOR TOLERANCE

OK, I'm assuming many of you have seen these two posts: the person who wants to play Destiny with others within the LGBT/Furry community, and the person who wants to play with Christians. Now let me say first this is not going to devolve into a theological or argument about morals. When the guy(or girl) who made his post about playing with other Christians, his thread was torn apart. He, his beliefs, and anyone who sided with him were discriminated and made fun of. He was told countless times that he was wrong and stupid for believing what he did. Now today there was another post made by a guy(or girl) wishing to play with with those in the LGBT and "furry" communities. This thread, thankfully, was met with nothing but kind words and willingness to play, even by those who were not LGBT. Why is there a difference between the responses to the Christian post and the LGBT/furry post? Neither was condemning those who didn't think like them, simply asking to play with like-minded people of similar backgrounds, yet one was discriminated and made fun of. Why is this OK? We supposedly live in this generation of tolerance, where everyone's beliefs and lifestyles are to be accepted, so why the intolerance? Everybody should remember the Golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated. Ok guys, it's getting a little out of hand. This is not a topic about religion, it is about respecting each other. Remember, just be nice to people. It doesn't cost anything. You're not required to agree with them, but do not belittle or discriminate against them for thinking differently than you do.

It has been like that for thousands of years. It would be surprising and restore my faith in humanty if people tolerated it.

  • Well most organized religions have made a bad name for themselves through murder, persecution, vitriol, and such. The LGBT community has a bad name because it seems weird and blasphemous to folks whose morals are based on bronze age mythology and not a beautiful connection with the living universe around them.

  • Really, if I get into a fire team with randoms, my hope is that we don't discuss political or religious beliefs and just concentrate on the task at hand.

    • There's a severe lack of morality in today's society. Practicing religion isn't as "cool" as making fun of it is. But god forbid someone say something about the LGBT community, you become labeled a biggot. Seems pretty unfair to me.

      • A "theological" what? The LGBT/Furry is generally more accepted because this group of people aren't always trying to beat you over the head with their ideals. I would rather play with a LGBT/Furry person than a religion-toting individual

Honestly, I can't even imagine how you can compare someone's sexual orientation with his religious preferences. one thing is the way you are, the other is just the cultural mythos in which you are educated. PS : Surpised about the Furries, I supose as an European that that kind of stuff is more common in the US, never seen that in here, thought of it more like a fetish than as a sexual orientation . PPS : Even though, I'd rather like to see everyone playing together and not closing only with the things you know.

Unfortunately it's influenced by the rapidly growing idea in society that all Christians are homophobic and hateful to those in the LGBT+ community and others, mainly do to loud radicals such as the Westboro (take when they protested the Sandy Hook funerals), and religious/political views from Republicans through the media. Generally, a true Christian/Catholc/whatever theism one is part of, is someone who accepts everybody regardless of anything (these are words spoken from a true pastor). Typically, most in the LGBT+ and non-members are hostile to Christians due to the above facts (excluding the paragraph before this). I wish things were different, and many people are taking various steps to change this, but that is currently the way it is, whether we like it or not. I, personally, as a member of the LGBT+, have no problems with Christians, so long as they are not hostile towards me and my ideals. You do your thing, I do my thing.

          • How about we dont segregate in any way, and just play with all different people from all different backgrounds and countries? The commonality you need is a love of gaming and the game you play. That's the true beauty of the Internet. The rest is what churches and clubs are for

A lot of people have been burned by christians (literally and figuratively). I think you'd have a hard time finding someone who has been persecuted by a furry. People use the internet to lash out. It sucks, but what can you do?

              • Nice try. I read the first 5 posts following your post OP. The level of intolerance and ignorance on the part of religious folk prevents the possibility of a civil discussion on the matter. And, like it or not, all your thread is doing is adding more fuel to the fire. Another thread regarding these topics, regardless of personal beliefs = failure. You are ADDING to the problem! not helping to solve it.

              • It's cool to make fun of Christians. We need to have a common enemy to rally against and they fit the bill because some are really nuts and if you generalize all of them... they are all nuts.

                  • The truth? Because people that represent the religious in the US in the political scene are complete assholes and they make people of your religion look like self righteous douches. The religious right wants to restrict personal freedom and legislate their beliefs to force others to follow their beliefs. They used to castrate, jail, or even kill gay people. They have lost that power, but they are still trying to hold on to as much power as they can. The LGBT community is simply asking for equal rights. . . so it is easier to empathize with the latter than the former. Don't get mad at the public for that perception. Blame the theocratic politicians.

Unfortunately for all good religious people, the past 3000+ years have given them a terrible reputation, so a lot of people have no more tolerance for the inherent singleminded tunnel vision that people of these beliefs tend to share. I didn't read either thread because I can't stand Christians talk about their beliefs for long and neither can I sympathise with them, and I didn't see the other thread because I simply didn't see it, but neither surprises me. LGBT and furrys appear to be more fun in general

                          • There is a misconception that people looking for other Christians are self righteous bigots because of organizations like Westboro baptist church. Where as people that are lgbt are believed more open minded. You can actually find both kinds of people in both groups.
