I actually rather like these ideas. Chain events are a lot of fun. Of course these things could all be in the full game, and I hope they are.
I'm just going to point this out, but the argument "this is beta" shouldn't just be thrown at people who have actual constructive feedback. Save that for people who just keep saying the game is to short.

I could have sworn that during an interview someone from bungie was talking about going on a mission and having the option to then rescue a dignitary and when that was done you could then escort them to safety or carry on with your original mission. I think Bungie is keeping a tight lip and I don't blame them.
