Hand cannons seem to have gotten a slight buff but not near enough. Why would I choose a hand cannon versus a scout rifle when they have pretty much the same damage per shot but one has almost twice as many rounds and a higher rate of fire and both equally accurate if the scout rifle is not more accurate or at least a little easier to aim. The hand cannon can't even get a one shot kill head shot on level 8, granted the scout rifle cannot either but with the limitations the hand cannon has ammo/ROF wise I think it should be a lot more powerful. Literally not enough bang for my buck on the hand cannon. Maybe there are better ones in the full game? But right now they are still resembling what should be a "secondary weapon" not a special but a secondary. Like an "oh no I'm out if rounds in my primary better switch to the last ditch effort to make it outta this!"
Any other opinions on these so called "cannons"?

I honestly don't like them. They are slow and take way too long to reload, especially when fallen are zerg rushing you.

Edited by Dingo9012: 7/25/2014 1:11:54 AMOkay, so I re-rolled my Hunter and my Titan to make them prettier and this time through I played solely with the Hand Cannon on my Hunter from start to finish (with the exception of the prologue mission of course.). I found that the longer I was on my Hunter, the more I changed the way I played...I'd take more time, float the reticule across the mob and squeeze off a round for a Precision hit each time...and you know what...It STILL needs a damage boost! You just don't have enough ammunition in the magazine to wipe out a bunch of dregs and vandals as easily as you can with other primary weapons. Unless the Hand Cannon gets a slight increase in both precision and normal damage, I can't see myself ever using one except when Golden Gun is active. And I know we Hunter's get the smexy throwing knife/knives later on and they do make up for the lack of killing power the Hand Cannon Hunter possesses, but other classes get a melee too right? Why should HC-Hunters have to rely on their melee to balance out a primary weapon? But meh...enough of my rant for the night, anyone else got a sob story about the Hand Cannon? Perhaps one ran over your dog? Killed your Goldfish? Stole your first Girlfriend or Boyfriend? Because as they are right now they suck that badly I wouldn't be surprised!

Hand cannons are sexy and thats all I care about.

Edited by TomatoDragon: 7/22/2014 8:29:19 PMI'm not gonna complain at a slight buff. It's been the only primary weapon ive used in both alpha and beta. Forcing myself to get good and hit nothing but head with it cause I love revolvers. Pleeeaaassseee...give us the ability to fan them.

Hand Cannon + Bladedancer will be superb. Suits a close quarters stealth loadout.
-
they look cool but if you cant aim you gonna fail and the dmg is to low should be 1hit weapon liek golden gun xD
-
I like the hand cannons. I find it fun to use. And to kill people in pvp... Just cuz. But tbh there is no denying it's outclassed currently. However I approach it as training my use with the golden gun. The more accurate I get with my hand cannon. The better my aim with the golden gun will be.
-
I experimented with hand cannons a bit this past weekend....it was okay but I saw myself always switching back to my scout rifle.
-
I like them for pve, but I think they're just outclassed in pvp by SRs.
-
I enjoyed the Hand Cannon and the challenge it was to master them. I think a massive reload speed buff and I would be happy. No way should it take longer to load a pistol than an assault rifle that's just stupid.

Those are two of the weapons you can get for competing the tutorial. They're pretty bad right now. Stat-wise and in function, because that six shot maximum and longest reload outside of heavy weapons absolutely kills their effectiveness. People keep saying that there are stronger ones at higher level, but even that isn't all that true. Here's a comparison of FWC and Vanguard Scout Rifles and Hand Cannons. Orange for rifle, blue for cannon. http://i.imgur.com/bOLb4Ij.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4llZ5LX.jpg Literally coming from the same vendor, mind. That's not what I'd call comparable. I actually had a pretty okay time using a Hand Cannon after getting gloves that sped up their reload, but even then I kept thinking about how all other weapons could get that too and still be ahead of my revolver to boot. I love pistols, but Hand Cannons are still just extremely lackluster.

It would be awesome if the hand cannons were like Jacobs pistols in borderlands. Or at least possessed one of the elements Jacobs pistols possess e.g. Fires as fast as you can pull the trigger, high damage, quick reload.
-
I've said it before and I will say it again. It needs a bigger mag or it needs better reload speed. I've seen a couple that have the ability where kills add ammo directly to the mag. that seems like it just might solve the issue, but I haven't ever had one of those in my possession to try.

I use Hand Cannons exclusively in PvE and sometimes in PvP. The head-shot/kill ratio seems much stronger there, and it's easier to pull them off. But yeah, in PvP I choose a scout rifle most times. It pops off more rounds then a hand cannon can and as such is more versatile.
-
As a hunter, PvE Hand cannons are the shit!!! 1 shot head shots everywhere, and stack your chain of woe to get super fast reloads, It's a high skill/high reward PvE gun. I've cleared whole waves with a single clip and it's the most fun gun I've used in the beta. However as for PVP.... Needs to be a 3-4 body shot 1-2 headshot. Because right now 3 head shots with that thing in PvP is -blam!-ing ridiculous since the recoil is unreal and people are constantly runing and jumping/flying around. It's near impossible to do good in PvP with a hand cannon.

They're pretty bad right now.

The first one I had was useless but at L8 they aren't bad. But, when I have a scout rifle with the same damage but better stats which also makes headshots easier...

I feel that if I can find a Hand Cannon with a decent abillity I can go above and beyond with it on close quarter maps like Venus or Earth. Unfortunately the closest I got was a Searcher Mk. 37 with "Who's Next?", which reads "A kill with the final round in the magazine increases reload speed." It's flavorful with a Handcannon, but it's strictly worse that Feeding Frenzy which reads "Kills with this weapon increase reload speed for a short time.", which is what I had on my Shingen-C. Unfortunately I've been pouring my money into Encrypted Weapon Engrams of all shapes and sizes and I have yet to get any more potential candidate Hand Cannons. I did find a Pulse Rifle with the "Secret Round" abillity which I think is worth testing. It says "Missing a shot from this weapon's burst will fire a fourth shot." Seems like it should help things out.

theyre groing to need more power if ppl want me to use em over my auto rifle.
-
I haven't even used a hand cannon yet
-
I think handcannons are great the way they are. Most dregs died in one headshot and vandals died in two regardless of where they were shot. If anything needs work itll be the pulse rifles which i felt didnt stand out between the powerful scoutrifle and rapidfire assault rifle but were instead lost in a world of mediocrity

Edited by DigiOps: 7/21/2014 4:10:25 PMSome of them feel underpowered. My biggest gripe with them was reload speed until I got Chain of Woe. That plus a hand cannon that reloads faster when you wait until you use all six rounds equals an insanely fast reloading speed assuming you landed three precision kills to make Chain of Woe stack. Honestly, though, I'll probably just go back to a scout rifle as soon as I find one that actually has upgrades. Lots of auto rifles and pulse rifles... no scout rifles. :\
-
I also found a rare handcannon. Mine had rounds that cause the target to stagger. And a few other choices. Cant tell you how useful it is because its level 10. I agree with you about the scout rifle. If a handcannon cant one shot then scouts the way to go. Dont really see the point of having a handcannon. I was thinking id like the handcannon as a heavy weapon option instead.

Edited by Fingernageldreck: 7/21/2014 3:42:26 PMI did find a blue lvl 10 handcannon which had some upgrade options that the projectile will split into small projectiles before impact(hope you guys can follow, my english is bad ^^). Maybe handcannons will shine with this kind of things. But pve and pvp with our beta handcannons is a poor experience. Lets see what the full game will bring.
