How do you feel about hand cannons now?

Hand cannons seem to have gotten a slight buff but not near enough. Why would I choose a hand cannon versus a scout rifle when they have pretty much the same damage per shot but one has almost twice as many rounds and a higher rate of fire and both equally accurate if the scout rifle is not more accurate or at least a little easier to aim. The hand cannon can't even get a one shot kill head shot on level 8, granted the scout rifle cannot either but with the limitations the hand cannon has ammo/ROF wise I think it should be a lot more powerful. Literally not enough bang for my buck on the hand cannon. Maybe there are better ones in the full game? But right now they are still resembling what should be a "secondary weapon" not a special but a secondary. Like an "oh no I'm out if rounds in my primary better switch to the last ditch effort to make it outta this!" Any other opinions on these so called "cannons"?

  • Hand Cannons aren't supposed to beat Scout Rifles at range. Scoped Rifle vs. Hand Cannon with a dot sight at long range? Scout Rifle should win.

  • Hand cannons are awesome the way they are. I love all my hand cannons! I use THE DEVIL YOU KNOW in PvE to 1 headshot most things, and my thorn on pvp to two headshot other guardians. Easily fixed the problem of thorns small clip by making my shots count and wearing hand cannon reload speed gloves. Bungie!!! Handcannons are perfect the way they are, please don't touch them.

    • I dunno, the hand cannon still feels beefier, and I have a freaking exotic scout rifle. Maybe something for their accuracy?

    • I have a 2.95 K/D and have been only using handcannons as a primary since the Beta. They were outclassed by AR, but hopefully, they are fine now. However, they do not need more power, at all.

        There was one that I was getting killed by in PVP that had an insane fire rate. My scout would fire 2 shots and they already put out 5 or 6 rounds at me. Don’t know if they were made to fire that fast or not..

          The Handcannon (Silvered Maverick Mk.41) I have now is outpacing any Scout or Pulse rifles I have. My Handcannon gets 199 with 260 critical hits. My Scout (Naraka SR5) gets 189 with 206 critical. I jut got a Pulse rifle that I haven't been able to use yet (Suros JPS-55) says attack is 224. I usually don't use Handcannons in PvP though. Too many Fusion rifles (those things suck, never works for me). In PvP I use Pulse and shotgun -- arenas are all too small for sniping. but in PvE I use my Maverick in sniper spots and get critical hits on anything not hiding behind a massive shield, then I use my sniper. And as for explosive rounds, it takes two shots using explosives to kill a target for minimal damage to a second ai standing next to the one I am shooting. Explosives = 3 or 4 rounds per two targets. non explosive = 2 rounds per two targets= one shot, one kill.

          Did the scout rifle buff add that much damage? I was doing like 1505 on trash mobs with the hc and 609 or something with the scout rifle. I haven't gotten on to try it out yet.

        • One thing I would note about handcannons is that i've never seen a legendary one drop in the entire time i've been playing for me or my fireteam. I've seen the last word drop for a clan member. The reason why this is a tad dissapointing is because 9/10 times the rng perks on drops are better than factional versions. Guess the vanguard version does have some rather favourable perks, though i'm at a loss for why people like explosive rounds?

          • I use "the devil you know" and i love it, its great the way it is. It doesn't need more power or anything other buffs. working on getting thorn right now hopefully can say the same about it

          • I'd say most of the hand cannons are quite good and accurate to real pistols, plenty of stopping power (impact), decent range good damage.They one shot small adds and usually 3-4 for large ones. only complaint is that Thorn needs a mag buff, the weapon is really difficult to get, it should be as good as it is difficult, lining up enemies for the penetrating DoT rounds is a difficult ability to use but fun to learn to, especially when the enemies ai is a bit better on higher difficulties, hard to line them up away from their spawn doors. An exotic should have equal mag size to a legendary, shouldn't it?

              More often than not my Painted Big Chief kills in two headshots. That's a goddamn awesome feeling. If anything survives the two headshots, a gust of wind would kill it off. You could just glare angrily and watch them crumble away. So yeah, I love these beautiful works of art. EDIT: Hand cannons are also fantastic for punching enthusiasts like myself. I believe one shot anywhere to the body immediately after or right before a melee attack will kill anyone. Gotta' love that One-Two Punch for when your Shoulder Charge isn't available.

              • I selected the first option, but at the same time, The Devil you know HC has 12 shots, which is close to most scouters. Also, the hand cannon ADS's quicker than scout and can 3 shot most at short to medium range where scouts are medium to long.

              • The hand cannon's headshot radius is much more generous. Honestly I find them super fun, I love my Thorn and can't wait for the buffs. The recoil is a bit insane sometimes on HCs in general, but i think that's a fair drawback for their high impact.

                • I get one hit head shots with my hand cannon all the time. Also, one hit belly shots on vex all the time. I can kill dregs and vandals with one shot at lvl 28 and I'm lvl 27. Something isn't right if it's not working for you.
