older model like the 1902 or peacemaker. Over the long run they would be more reliable. They were designed for rough dirty conditions, as well as they were meant to be patched and mended without access to special equipment

What's their price range?

it really varies - you could get a quality replica online for 250-500. but you can usually find them in most pawn shops from around 150+. A gun shop might charge you a little more, but if they have a smith or expert on staff, they will be able to point you to a quality piece. If you're looking for the cream of the crop - a brass mechanism and cold rolled barrel Also you can find then either drilled for modern ammo, or ball and cap. The later will allow for you to pack your own ammo from any available source (other calibers etc.)

A little too old for my taste. Anything a bit more modern in .357?
-
a Post 1966 S&W detective special (it's single action so you have to time your cadence a little so as no to wear the gearing under heavy use.)(also note, it's not old, they just haven't changed the model since) A colt model 15-4 is pretty good, but a little heavier than others of similar barrel length - so it needs training so you don't wear yourself out after a few shots. If your thinking .357, maybe look at a .38 special as it can accommodate .38,.357 magnum and most standard .357 rounds. it can also handle higher velocity rounds like +P(FBI load) and+P+, and PGU-12B
