Let's Talk: #Clans

It's like a Let's Play, but with talking! So a few hours ago the webteam added #clans as an official hashtag/forum. A year ago, people would post things in #destiny and #community and #flood and wherever to find games. This led to a pretty big distribution of clans/groups making it impossible to see them all at once. Lots of people chimed into Deej about it and basically agreed #community was the place to go. But as soon as Bungie gave us what we wanted, #community turned into a clan forum and it was very hard/ impossible to find legitimate discussion like we had on Bnet.old. Almost immediately everybody that asked for it to be in #community, myself included, realized we made a mistake and needed a separate forum for this kind of thing. Deej soon agreed and said it's something for the future. So now we have what we asked for. So what do you all think about it? I for one am glad we have it, but there's something more. See, on Bnet of Old we had the Classifieds, which were the exact same thing as #clans. But they didn't work. They were often 'dead' people said, despite getting lots of threads every day. But the issue was that people didn't go there to find clans. I have a theory. I think that a lot of kids simply... and this will sound silly but so be it... I think a lot of them just didn't know what the word 'classifieds' meant. How it was referring to the section of a newspaper. Because let's be honest- younger people rarely read newspapers these days. And job searches have gone elsewhere. So I think- hope- that simply by naming the tag with the descriptive word 'clans' that we may be able to avoid the issue of people not knowing where recruitment goes. I hope this will mean the tag is widely used- especially with group support coming soon. So yeah. Thoughts?

  • Agreed. But what happens when a new concept and tag becomes popular but has no place in the current "main" hashtags. Should we again flood an unrelated forum with these threads, while we wait for Bungie to update the site? Before it was a main tag, putting #Clan on something was next to meaningless. And this continues to be the case for anything but the predefined hashtags. I'd much prefer a system where there are no main tags which silo the forum. Just as we've done away with sticky threads, and allowed each thread to live and die of its own merit, so too should each hashtag have equal chance and equal responsibility. Rather than having a static page of forums: Destiny, Bungie, Community, etc... Have a dynamic page that lists all the tags (paged of course) ordered by their popularity. The nav bar at the top of the forum in the web app could display the top 5 or 6, however many fit... Or, that could even be a user customizable list of favorited tags. In any case, the main tags should actually reflect the conversations being had in this community, not corral them.
