Eating and cooking meat is what allowed us to evolve our large brains. Vegetarianism and veganism would probably reverse that given enough time.
Even if you don't believe in evolution, name one strictly herbivorous animal that's considered intelligent, besides the elephant, which is like a freak of nature.

You do know that neurons are fueled by glucose, right? The only role meat played in evolving our brains was to free up energy for carbohydrates -- from plants.

If we were herbivores we would look completely different. Consumption of meat may not directly effect how our brains developed but the act of hunting would have as it requires a very different method of gathering compared to finding greens, fruit and veg.
