So, it's banned for American citizens to have RPGs and I'm pretty sure almost none have them.

  • technically, they're highly regulated as explosives and title II destructive devices, but you can own one.

  • RPGs fall as a category under firearms. What firearms a person can own is regulated. But firearms are not banned. After Prohibition, liquor was regulated as well, children could no longer drink it. But liquor was not banned. Not to mention that there's no desire, and by that I mean the vast majority do not desire, to go against this law. It's seen as a reasonable measure in the interests of public safety.

  • Fair point. Ah, but that argument could be reversed. We, as a society, are conditioned to view the act of drinking alcohol as OK. If we were to change that, we'd be able to ban it in the interest of public safety. Ex: alcohol poisoning+drunk driving+overall violence (caused by alcohol) would decrease, albeit by a small amount.

  • The challenge of course, is changing public opinion. They actually are doing that though. California aiming for being the first smoke free state and they might just do it. In my in a neighboring city it's illegal to smoke everyone except your car and your own home. If you live in a complex or a duplex then you can't. Public opinion has changed about smoking with the heavy advertising over the real dangers. Thus the majority is swinging to being accepting of smoking bans. It'll be harder to sell that for liquor though because recreational use doesn't affect you as badly as recreational smoking.
