I'm pretty bummed. July is a packed month for me. With vacation, house renovation projects and my normal day to day work schedule, I doubt I'll be able to spend much time in the beta...

Beta will probably last until the end of August or September.

I truly hope that Bungie is looking for a 2 month beta. I don't see how a decent percentage of defects can be found, debugged and fixed for such a large project under a 2 month window. However, Activision could be using the beta from more of a marketing perspective. The beta could be more of a demo to raise pre-order numbers. If this is the case, then they may have a much smaller beta window.

This is correct. But, coming from a software background, when most systems/products are released into the field, new bugs will be found that are close to impossible to find within a developers' lab environment. That is why many companies use public betas. It allows them to find the bugs that are more prominent in the field. However, Bungie and Activision are throwing a lot of time and resources at this. They may not need a true public Beta Test. Which would lead them to use it more from a marketing stand point. Which is fine, as long as the product goes gold with good quality. I am just biased because I want the beta to last as long as possible :)
