Anyone Here A Longboarder/Longboards?

So as I'm living in the UK and essentially can't surf anymore I've pretty much decided to get into long boarding. I've always loved the boards whenever I used them thanks to friends but now as I am walking about an hour to get to work I might as well have one for transportation. Any people here with decent experience in longboarding that could give me any tips/advice/guidance on how to proceed? I've already been looking at boards online and I'm most likely going to go with an fully built board as my first until I get more experience and can start customizing each parts to my taste. Anyways yeah, any tips or anything? Thanks.

  • I'm very experienced. Been doing it for 5 years now. Your idea is a good one but please at least customize your bearings. After you feel like you want to customize it more move onto truks. Wheels last.

    • A complete board will be good to go for just cruising around right out of the box. If it feels a little stiff you can adjust the trucks to your liking which is as easy as having the right size wrench. If you want a smoother and easier ride invest in some better bearings which are also very easy to replace. If you're getting it from a shop they should be able to tell you everything you need to know about the parts.

      • I do a bit of longboarding to get around my campus, but I don't usually do anything incredibly intense like go down massive hills. I have a Gravity carve, and it's a pretty good board. Proceed with what? What to buy? How to skate?

        • Well, it depends on what you would like to do with the board. Do you just want to cruise around or do you want to bomb hills? Answering this is going to point you in a direction as to which kind of board you'd want to get.

          • No but I think most long boarders are total tools. Does that count? Lol jk A ton of my friends do. As long as it's actually longer than a typical street board, you're good. And penny boards are meant to be clown roller skates, ya goofy -blam!-s
