I need to play as a white male, otherwise... well, I don't know what happens; I've never played as anything except a white male. But I'm not racist. I married a Dunmer.
In fact, I've hated Nords since Morrowind, so my greatest joy in Skyrim was bringing the whole forsaken place under Imperial control.

Maybe it just makes it easier to identify with your character? I tend to stick to white characters and human characters in games with non-human options for that reason. Although I do play both male and female characters.
