Just about finished my first run. Been using club+10 but want to upgrade to something that does more damage but still has a fast attack speed before ng+. Str or dex as I can respec if needed. Any suggestions?

    • With any melee class, parrying will help you a little, and never let yourself become overconfident, trust me, the enemy uses whatever break you give.

    • Also buy the long-distance fall ring from the Cat and jump down the giant pit in Majula.

    • Go to the well in Majula, interact with it, and a body should ascend up and out of it by a rope and an item can be looted from it.

    • If you like being a rogue character that can doge attacks increase ADP, it helps you roll faster, I think. Also the first white knight you see in the game drops a sword that does lightning damage.

Don't PVP until you can go through several bonfires and bosses without dying, because the pvpers over there take things seriously! *unless you're gonna gank or ratbros.

            • Don't get cocky. Literally any enemy can kill you if you make the slightest mistake. Be sure to talk to every NPC you you meet until they start saying the same things. Above all else, Dark Souls is a fashion game. It doesn't matter if the armor is amazing, if it looks like shit, don't wear it. Its all about looking awesome while kicking ass.

            • I just 100% the game a couple days ago. Very proud. I did it with a magic build. Got to Drangelic with level around 220 in NG++. Using a magic build is not a terrible thing- it even makes a lot of the game easier. It's underpowered for the first 100 levels, but by the time you're level 100 you're an unstoppable nuke. Hell, I only ever even use the same two spells- the most basic 'Dark Orb' hex with 96 casts and 'Great Lightning Spear' with 30 casts. I never run out of casts before a bonfire. So if you like ranged battle, I recommend it. If you're just going melee like most people though, there are still tons of options! You'll probably want standard weapon and shield if you're a beginner. For shields, honestly the only number you need to concern yourself with is its damage reduction. Get a shield that has 100 damage reduction ASAP. The first 100 shield I got carried me the rest of the game, even without any upgrades. As for weapons... it depends on your preference. The Fire Longsword is probably the best early game weapon, which you find exploring the Forest of Fallen Giants (essentially the first area). I used it almost the whole game. But weapon just depends on what moveset you like, and if you're favoring strength or dexterity. Dexterity weapons have a lot more variety- halberds and swords and all kinds of things. Strength weapons go for heavy swords or blunt attacks. Personally I favor dexterity because the movesets are generally much cooler, but it's just a matter of preference.

                • Make sure not to attack NPCs, and talk to the lady in green once you get to Majula. Respect your foes. A single cannon fodder enemy can end you at any time. Explore EVERYTHING. Experiment with items you find, especially weapons. Try to find a decent one with a moveset that you like. If you have any specific questions, PM me. I'd be happy to try to answer them.

Avoid taking risks when at all possible, and remember to avoid being too greedy and impatient as well. For example, if a boss is about to die in one more hit, but may be about to attack, wait until they leave themself open again rather than attacking then, because you run a good chance of dying otherwise and having to do it all over again. Also, avoid getting mad at the game if at all possible, because when it comes to Dark Souls, death leads to anger, which leads to more death, and therefore more anger.

                    • Never use shields, rolling is bad, magic is underpowered, put all of your skill points into adaptability, killing the lady in green gives you the best items and she's evil anyway
