17 RepliesI literally haven't been active on this forum, or even opened up this account in years. I didn't think I'd ever come back and post here again but after seeing the headline about Marty on a random site I proverbially spit out what I was drinking and came straight here. One of the defining moments of my young childhood was when my cousin was showing me his newfangled Xbox and telling me about this awesome new game he had called Halo. Up to this point I had experience only with stuff like Pokemon stadium and spyro on my PS1. When that home screen for Halo opened, and the music started playing, my mind was blown. I wanted it so bad I eventually nagged my parents enough to buy me my own Xbox and Halo so I could play the entire game. When I finally got it my dad sat down next to me as I was playing, and I will always remember what he said: "this looks stupid". 10 minutes later we were playing coop and having the time of our lives. Me and my dad couldn't get enough of that game and to this day we will occasionally whip out that very same xbox from some closet and pop in that very same Halo: CE disk and play. My dad has never gotten into any other game in his life except for Halo, and we've played it countless hours together. Martys music wasn't just the soundtrack for that game, it was the soundtrack for some of the best memories of my childhood. Halo 2 continued the amazing tradition, and the Halo 3 OST still gives me shivers every time I hear it. Bungie might not make Halo anymore, and maybe that does mean that Martys time at the studio has reached its natural conclusion. All good things must come to an end. But to receive only 3 sentences of a farewell to one of the most iconic individuals of the studio? A man who gave one of the most popular video game series of all times its very soul? I really hope Bungie fixes this, or they're permanently going to lose points from a life long fan for this.

He will be missed so much, I'm listening to his art on Pandora radio as I type this. Also saved music vids on youtube :D Love his work, Thank You Marty!!!

DeeJ, I hope you and your impersonal Bungie get run into the ground. O'Donnell gives us culture and spews the life into Halo, and you give him one god damn -blam!-ing paragraph.

When Bungie said it would be a new beginning for them, they weren't kidding. I am sincerely worried, I hope for the sake of Bungie that the next game lives up to the promises that were set forth not only when Bungie left the Halo franchise, but also the promises set forth in the foundation of the company. Please, for the love of Blam! please prove to us what we should not be doubting.

6 RepliesWhy is everyone so afraid of change? What difference does it make who make's the music for a game? MUSIC does not make a great game. Game play, innovation, story and FUN-ness are what makes ANYONE play a game. Hell, I turned down the music in Skyrim, just like I usually do in games and played for over 200 hours.

There are many good composers out there, Zimmer is amazing, but Marty was not only Bungie's musical composer, he was the sound director, the man who gave life to your footsteps, weapons, encounters, environment. The stories he wrote for our ears made every moment in the games larger than life. I hope he finds another story to share with us soon :)

From the day I first opened my Xbox on Christmas 2004 and was first handed the magnum by Capt. Keyes to watching Sgt. Johnson die, your music Marty was always there. Which is what makes you leaving my favorite gaming developer and community that much worse. Whenever I looked at many games of today they always seemed to be lacking that one ingredient that changed a game from being just that, a game to being an experience unto itself. You, and the rest of the team at Bungie had that one thing. Every Halo game was cooked to perfection from the friendliness bungie had towards the community to the story itself to the aesthetics and design everything was well crafted and honed to a point. Your music created for this game, this experience brought all these elements together and made them work cohesively. Now moving forwards I wonder what the sound scape of the future Destiny titles will be like. Bungie is not the same as the company I grew up with and cherished as everything that is right in gaming and neither will the games. Halo 4's music was good on its own but didn't hold the weight, or atmosphere as yours and I wonder will the same fate happen to Destiny. I hope, as one of your many fans that you continue making excellent music for years to come. Thank you Marty.
