Now that I've thought since my previous comment perhaps I can say this a little more eloquently... Had this post stated that Marty had finished the music for Destiny and decided it was time to retire, we would all have wished him the best of luck. But this post, despite the use of the word 'friendly,' suggests something darker occurred. There is no way posting this news to us at 0200 is going to make this go away. There is no way saying just a paragraph will make this fade away. I hope Staten does well for himself- we know that he left on his own terms so we are content. But this is all we're hearing about Marty? If you don't want to tell us the exact specific reason then OK, but please- you need to let us know more than these scraps. This isn't Destiny content. This is Bungie content. And those of us that stayed through the Darkness stayed for Bungie. We're invested. Humor us.

Really? Four sentences? I'm not going to assume that Bungie's the bad guy here. Marty has been an integral part of bungie and halo's sound for ages. The music and sound in those games are extraordinary. So i can't imagine that Bungie would fire him if it wasn't a REALLY good reason. The four sentences, even though how little they were, sounded forced. I think some bad blood has been going on between Marty and his bosses for awhile, why else would they see fit to fire the man who has given them award-winning music. We will never know, it's not a "maybe," not a "if i ask real nice they'll tell." No, we're never going to know sadly enough, because Bungie's a secretive company anyways. There's no way they would allow info about one of the community's favorite employee getting fired to get leaked. To be honest we don't really deserve to know either; we're simply appreciators of his music and how he incorporates it into awesome games. It's obviously very private, and from what I can guess, not a clean break-up. Either way, another business who picks Marty up now would be like how Activision "picked up" Bungie. It would be a smart move. I know i'd be interested in buying the game he's working on next or at least the sound track.

Seriously? Okay, this is my first comment on any thread on Bungie.net because I never bothered to make one earlier. But this. This is insanity. I think it's safe to say the Halo OST is one of the greatest game soundtracks to ever exist. The only reason Halo's storyline thrived is because of the emotions the music caused. I remember hearing Halo CE's music, and I was instantly hooked. I loved the main theme so much, I had to learn it on piano. It was basically the reason I started playing music, which I’m currently pursuing and gotten vey far in. I will never forget the main theme on the piano now, it’s embedded in my muscle memory. But now you’re telling me that Martin O’Donnell, one of the most influential forces in the Halo series was fired and they can’t even deem a reason why they did such a thing? You have lost a lot of respect from me Bungie. I’ve been a life long fan, and I never thought a situation like this would happen.

The first Destiny game will be the best because Marty's' music will be there. Who agrees with me?

The first post that I shall make on BNET will be of disappointment, and disheartenment. After nearly a decade worshipping the Halo franchise, this is my first post on BNET. Halo has and will be the series that solidified my love of gaming. The narrative, the characters, the worlds, the mystery and, the Music. I've always believed that if you can listen to the score of a movie or game, and be fully transported right back to the exact moment when that piece played in the narrative, then the score had done it's job perfectly. The music created by Marty and Mike did more than this for me. I experienced the emotions, could picture the cut scenes, the characters or worlds of Halo when I listened. The soundtracks of all the Halo games up until Halo 4 have been with me wherever I go. I've listened to them in different countries, while studying for my future career at University or simply when I just wanted to experience Halo without actually playing the game. I've listened to the score significantly more times than I have played the games, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Needless to say, the beautiful collection of music produced by Marty and Mike are just as iconic as the playable games themselves. They are symbiotic, without one, the other cannot be. As NCCMLBungie said so eloquently, the music gave Halo it's very soul. Bungie, my trepidation for Destiny has been soured. The loss of Marty's invaluable input will be a grave loss for your company. That being said, I do not know the full details of the issue, and can comment no further. All we can do is enjoy what he did, and await what he will do. Finally, thank you Marty O’Donnell, for sharing your talent, your emotions and your work. Thank you, and Never Forget.
