darkness postulate

The darkness in destiny has little information known about it. The only things Bungie have released say it is a powerful mysterious force. As the travelers long time nemesis it attacked it and humanity ending the golden age. and it was powerful enough to crack the travelers surface force it to move from it's starting place of mars to "the City" . Forcing the traveler to be dormant for all this time. That said one of the campaigns main purposes is to wake the traveler because the darkness is returning for a second attack. Not much has been said about the darkness's influence and how it interacts with the guardians. Will the darkness have ground units? Will it be spread out and attack guardians in random public events? Or will it be secluded in one planet or designated area that pro guardian can try their luck in a strike or raid? My postulate begins with the guesstimate that the darkness is tough to say the least. Ground units will be fast and nimble. Instead of traveling in packs like the Fallen or swarming in hordes like the Hive they will go solo. This may possibly may be seen in the sony sharing commercial with the hive shrieker. Shrieker was not one of the enemies revealed in the hive hierarchy. I can't understand why Bungie who had created a theme of medieval warriors like wizards and knights. Stoping with shriekers wouldn't make sense. They even went as far as to say that they modeled hellmouth after a medieval castle. Based on that information I am guessing that the shrieker is actually a unit of the darkness. Even if this is untrue it does not effect the rest of the postulate. Thinking about the darkness has made me question how have the other civilizations been affected by the darkness. Why would humans/awoken be hunted and destroyed by the darkness but the vex are mysteriously left alone. I think these other civilizations have made a deal with the Devil type of thing with the darkness. The vex maybe learned this time/space travel from the darkness. Or maybe the darkness made and control the vex headquartered in the citadel. We have already learned that hive wizards use powers of the darkness in similar ways guardians use powers of the traveler. Maybe the hive are humans transformed by the darkness. These things may not be known until we can actually play the campaign but are fun to theorize on. Leave a reply and start a rescission if you think I'm right or wrong I want to hear what the commune thinks and if you read this entire thing through then hats of to you. And remember stay classy San Diego

  • My biggest question and I know we won't know the answer until we get our hands on the game is if we are alone in this fight? I have read that not everything in the galaxy is not our enemy and if so who and what races will help us in this fight? Could there be a rebel faction of the Cabal or Fallen who are not completely out for our heads and lost property?

        • I remember reading the caption to a photo which showed a hunter and then a cabal, a vex, and I think a hive which were tinted in darker ways. The caption was that they were actually being controlled by the darkness so I'm assuming that it is related more closely to mind controlling virus than say an agreement between leaders. In my mind this is further justified by the fact that we know that the Traveler is "magical." It seems that the villain, the one who could severely damage the traveler would also be "magical."

            • it would be interesting if the darkness was a being that had no form and each guardian would have to use a specific super to force it back in specific areas. (to give the darkness as sort of immortal feeling.)

                • I agree with Space Beaver; us not facing the Darkness before the 2nd Destiny game. Bungie did say that the Fallen would be Destiny's main antagonist.

                  • The way I understand it the Darkness is more like a force in the universe, not an actual group or faction. I think that all of the enemies in Destiny are associated with the Darkness, and that maybe there is some small group or a person controlling it all in the end (think Legend of Zelda, whenever Ganon is resurrected all kinds of evil creatures return with him, though most have no direct connection to him).

                  • Maybe angry leprechaun is right maybe like the traveler the darkness does not express it's power through ground units but through those who study and learn to use its power. Maybe like guardians these alien things use supers generated by the power if the darkness. We know that hive wizards use. The power of the darkness and other civilizations units may also. For example cabal psions using the power of the darkness. And the vex may use the darkness to teleport and time travel. That could be why vex and cabal are at war fighting for control over the darkness or some sort of artifact that will help them control it

                  • What if the Traveler is insane & the "Darkness" was actually a split personality that used the Traveler's power to try and wipe us out with some doomsday weapon consisting of fragments of itself which it had deposited throughout the Solar System? What if Humanity stopped it from impacting with the Earth, halting it above the current location of the city (which would explain why the bottom is trashed) & we created a city beneath its inert husk to shield us from aerial bombardment by other hostile alien races and then wiped out all records from those times to prevent future generations from reassembling it and inadvertently wiping us all out. What if, during those centuries that followed, it had been subtly manipulating events to make us think that the "Darkness" was some external enemy that was returning & we needed to repair the Traveler in order to survive? Time to line your helmets with tinfoil, people!

Shrieker was not one of the enemies revealed in the hive hierarchy.
Just because it wasn't revealed previously to gameinformer, doesn't mean it isn't a Hive unit. At the end of the article it did say, "all content subject to change". Bungie wouldn't have it name Hive Shrieker if it wasn't part of the Hive. We also certainly know, Bungie is keeping the "Darkness" behind a vault at the moment. I don't even assume to see the Darkness before "Destiny 2", we'll probably just hear tid-bits about it in Destiny. I believe the Vex and Hive are in league with the Darkness to some extent while the Fallen and Cabal have their own agendas.
