What Halo has the best weapon variety/balance.
Simple question. What Halo game do you think has the best weapon variety and balance.
Variety=All weapons have some purpose, even if some are stronger. More variety means more weapons are used. Less variety means less weapons are used
Balance=Weapons [though some are stronger weaker] have roles and purposes. Although one weapon may only be good at "X" range it still has some purpose and used right will work
Also to keep it simple lets only count handheld/foot weapons. No vehicles.

In my opinion Halo CE has the best balance while Halo 3 has the best variety.

1 ReplyI have to say CE. Whilst I love halo 2, if you weren't using the BR or duel-subs in matchmaking, you were doing it wrong. In CE all of the weapons seemed to fill a slightly different role. The AR was a good automatic weapon for mid to close range, and hit scan enabled you to place your shots where you wanted them a gave a fair skill gap. It was also the only halo where the pp served as a true weapon rather than a homing emp. Sniping required a fair amount of skill and was much more restricted to it's true niche. The needler was death incarnate for the inattentive. The shotty and SPNKR were true power weapons; rare and rewarding. The map designs at the time were revolutionary, well balanced, and beautiful. The one weapon I have heard sound criticism for was the M6. It's place in multiplayer is very arguable either way.

I came close to picking Reach, but I think that CE is the true winner here. Those voting Halo 3 don't know what they are talking about. The SMG, Plasma Rifle, and Spiker all performed the same role. The plasma pistol and magnum were nearly useless. The Sniper and Beam rifles were practically clones of each other. Hardly the makings of a balanced and varied sandbox where all weapons have a specific function.

Lol @ H3 winning. Anyone care to explain to me just why Bungie felt any functional need to create a sub-sandbox for the Brutes?

Edited by banj0: 4/7/2014 9:14:31 PMTasty BR margarine spread. OT: Halo 3's balance is questionable, but it has a huge variety. As much as I hate to say it, the weapons in Halo 4 (BR/DMR issue aside) are pretty balanced in that they all seem to have a specific combat purpose.

I voted for Halo CE. In every Halo since, there has been not much change in the weapon variety, but there has always been (at least) a minor balance issue between two or more weapons. Combat Evolved was the only one to hit as close to perfect as you can get.

Halo 4 without a doubt. The gun-play isn't all that good, but the weapon balance is far superior to any of it's predecessor's, save MAYBE CE. Except that magnum (which one could argue was OP on purpose to include a precision weapon in the game.)

Halo 3 has the best weapon balance out of all the games. Halo 2 has the biggest variety of weapons.

For variety Halo 4 because every weapon can actually kill somebody easily or is at least useful. It's not like Halo 2, 3 or Reach where you have weapons that are like BB guns.
