The only problem I have with Weed (and drugs in general) is that Americas appetite for it supports the Cartels.

No, once you legalize the stuff and make it so anybody can grow the stuff, the trade isn't reliant on crime lords. The Cartels provide now because they've got close to a monopoly on supply. Once you legalize, the market opens up.
