I have the same problem, it's quite irritating and I shouldn't have to zoom out.
And same as you Tartan, my touchpad doesn't seem to have a mousewheel function anymore after the laptop borked and I got it fixed.

Do you also have an oversensitive mousepad/touchpad that seems to think you've tapped it when you haven't? It makes writing a bitch when you leave the cursor further up the page. >_<

I don't, luckily. That really does sound like a pain in the ass. Although, sometimes it doesn't respond properly at all, flying across the screen, not responding, moving jerkily, things like that.
