Is a UDK something different than a SDK? Because I've heard the acronym SDK a ton lately, but not UDK.

Unreal Dev Kit and Source Dev Kit. They're the free versions of the Unreal engine (Gears of War, Unreal Tournament) and the Source Engine (Half Life, Counter Strike, Titanfall)
