What about fable? The 3rd one sucked compared to Ze first 2, but you can't say they where not good 3 rd person RPGs. As well as the up coming game, fable legends, which is 3rd person of course. But with all the games you said, you forgot to other series that are popular and 1st and 3rd person, fallout and elderscrolls.

Fable did pop up on the list of games of 2014 I was checking, in the form of Anniversary. Problem is, I'm not including remakes: it's not like they're moving the genre forward or anything (possibly excepting Halo: CEA's fantastic Terminals). Legends isn't open world, is it? Dungeon-crawler, says the Wiki. And yes, Fallout and TES sprung to mind too, but they're primarily first-person, and have been around since the early '90s. Also why I omitted Zelda Wii U. Sure, old IPs have the potential to advance a genre, but I'm not sure any of those games will. That said, Skyrim refined the RPG like nothing else.

  • Fable was always a hub game, but that doesn't mean that it's not in the category. To you what is open world? DA:origins and DA:2 wasn't open world, you where always hitting a hub or loading screen. Just like in fable, so yeah it's a sort of open world.
