Yeah it's a bit of buzz word but wanted to say seamless world like Destiny e.g. no menus and players dropping in or open events etc. Servers or cloud based the mechanics of Destiny's campaign/fireteams etc is what I meant. I hope that clears it up. In short I believe Destiny is open world in that you're free to visit place rather than a linear sequence of missions but I can't speak with any accuracy here TBH. I'm sure there are some linear parts to the story though just not like a traditional Halo. I think Destiny is going to have fantastic presentation and seamlessness, which is a lot of the appeal for me personally.

  • it appears from the info released so far that while the cloud has a large impact on Destiny, its also having a large impact on next gen gaming in general. the seamlessness of the world is due to the cloud, but if you could play the game offline (no public events or fireteams, or anyone else in the tower) it would still be considered an open world. as for linear gameplay, the game can be as linear as you want it to be. for instance, you can avoid all side missions, public events, and competitive multiplayer if you want to and just go through the main story line. but that's not what an open world is about. the cloud just makes this open world a shared world.
