I've given this a lot of though over the past few years and I don't want Earth to be my final resting place, maybe I'll go live on the moon or possibly Mars. We all have to dream big.
First off, we need an easy way of leaving Earths gravitational pull, and I'm thinking magnets. The US Navy already uses a rail gun like runway to slingshot fighter jets off its newest carrier, so why can't we build a tower somewhere secluded and launch space craft the same way? Getting to space is the easy part.
Second, obviously the slingshot won't be enough to send a capsule containing humans without turning them into pancakes so jet propulsion needs to be there to sustain steadiness while leaving Earth, but what kind of propulsion will be used while we're floating around in space? Burning fuel for energy (in any form) is old school (old school being as old as the first star) So what's the best way to get from point A to point B? Ion drives have already been tested and used for satellites such as the one that visited Saturn recently, but those are very weak and have the same effect as a piece of paper floating down onto a desk, can they be made better? Not anytime soon, sadly this is where the dream of long space journeys are crushed, we don't have the energy to take us very far (solar energy won't cut it... yet). A new power source needs to be forged, basically we need miniature particle accelerators upon one another to get the job done.
Lastly, a life support system capable of recycling all waste and making it usable again.
So when do you think space travel like in Destiny will be acheiveable?
Sorry for any typos, I'm on mobile.

Grenade jumping. XP

Wait. What if go on Mars and the stuff from Doom 3 happens.
-
HOPE IN BRO WE OUT
-
I hear bungies got a slingshot.
-
Tie a balloon to a rocket.
-
I do it all the time. You puny mortals have to go through quite a bit of trouble for it, however.
-
I leave it by swinging my mystic mallet really really hard.

Based SKYLON will do everything, long live SKYLON.

Or, we just build a space elevator. Given out current technological advancement, I wouldn't be surprised if the concept of one started getting thrown around in 20 years. My vote: put it in Mombassa.

Detonate nuke. Hold RB to ride out explosion. Profit.
-
Wait are they decided to make a moon city?
-
We leave earth by getting in a space shuttle and flying to the space station obviously -_-

A space elevator is more practical than magnetic launching. As for interplanetary propulsion, fusion rockets are probably the way to go. When it comes to interstellar travel a ram scoop would definitely be the fastest and most efficient. Id say solar colonization is achievable within our life time, probably within the next 20 years.

U die duhh

Step 1.) Bend the 4th wall over Step 2.) F**k it in the booty hole
-
Go to Australia and simply fall off of the Earth.
-
Space elevators, my boy.
-
Sign up for a program that NASA has where they send people to live in space.(well technically the moon)
-
Do drugs.
-
Convert every military into space programs. Boom.
-
You're an idiot.
-
SPAAAAAAAACE

Seeing as it is merely a movie, I highly doubt anything big will result from it, but I hope Nolan's next movie at least can relight the spark of interest of finding out what's out there. Discovering what's beyond the barriers of this planet's atmosphere. We're still pioneers.
