The deciding factor is not whether you are outgoing, but whether you are drained by action/seeing people (introvert) or drained by reflection/solitude (extravert).
Which really depends on my mood.
For them, the meaning is in the data.

For them, the meaning is in the underlying theory and principles which are manifested in the data.
Which depends on the situation.
Those who prefer thinking tend to decide things from a more detached standpoint, measuring the decision by what seems reasonable, logical, causal, consistent, and matching a given set of rules.

Those who prefer feeling tend to come to decisions by associating or empathizing with the situation, looking at it 'from the inside' and weighing the situation to achieve, on balance, the greatest harmony, consensus and fit, considering the needs of the people involved.
Which would depend on who or what I'm working with. You admit that the fourth step is the hardest to do on your own. This is why I prefer personality tests. It's smart to take them with a grain of salt, but you have to ask yourself two questions after taking a personality test. First of all, how thorough were the questions and answers? Did they cover every facet of your psychology, or at least the bits that would matter? Second, how honest were you? I disagree, strongly, with the "you are your own best judge" thing. That's bullshit. No one could be more biased about yourself than you. You could fancy yourself the greatest of all time, when you're really only just "okay". It's impossible to judge yourself. You'd have to ask the person who knows you the most, who isn't your friend or family. Minimize bias and maximize the objective fact. A lot of people will project who they WANT to be when they take personality tests. Obviously, that's the wrong way of going about it. Sometimes, it isn't their fault. The test will likely not have adequate answers that will not fit the user's personality traits at all. But to say that you could/should determine this for yourself... As a side note, every test of this kind I have EVER taken, ever, I have always gotten ISTJ. This is because I'm honest, I look for the tests that seem to have the most authenticity, and I'm consistent. Never once have I gotten anything other than ISTJ. I wonder why.

  • I'll also admit that you're not far wrong playing the bullshit card. I've only been looking at this for the last couple of days. It is very difficult to get your head around and is not something you can have authority on over night.

The main problem with personality tests is that a lot of those on the internet are inaccurate or ask ridiculous questions. I think it is easier to make a choice between concrete or abstract than it is to answer whether you get involved in TV soaps. I also agree that self-reporting is an issue and conceded that in the OP, "The process isn't without flaws (a big one being that people tend not to self-report accurately)". Projection is an issue. If people are not honest, or are incapable of being honest (due to approaching with the mindset that they "should" be a certain way), then it will be inaccurate. I also do not agree that even those closest to you will necessarily be able to type you accurately. I remember a number of close friends once thought I was an Extravert, which couldn't be further from the truth.
