When i report someone, what exactly happens?

Does the amount of votes get to a ninja, do the votes tally up in priority for a ninja to see, or does the system auto-ban someone based on numbering of votes? And also, does anything i write on the report get read, or is it just depending on the amount of reporting votes get the reported thread more attention. Or is it better to post details? Cause if i'm writing and no one is reading, then there's no point on even having the summary part.

  • Here's my understanding (based on my limited point of view) of what happens. Just like members, the moderators are not privy to the "under the hood" details and functions of the system. In essence, we are a human "Q/A review" of reports before the automated system "does its thing". First, a mute/hide with a reason other than "meh" IS a report. Secondly, for reports (or mutes/hides with a reason other than "meh") need to be filed by multiple users (who use the same reason from the pulldown). In other words, IF the trigger for a reported post is (just pulling a number out of thin air) 10 reports (I don't know the trigger) and the post is reported 5 times for "spam" and 5 times for "offensive content", neither reason reaches the "trigger threshold" and the post will not make it to our queue. When the reports (or hide/mutes with a reason other than "meh") make it to our queue, the ninja are asked to review the post and the reason to give either a guilt/innocent ruling on the report. If we select "guilty" that means we agree that the reported post is inappropriate and is inappropriate for the reason specified by the reports. Guilty then results in a ban for the member (from the public forums and private groups) the duration of which is determined by the report reason and if the member has previous bans (repeat offenders get escalating ban lengths). Length of the ban is not seen or determined by the reviewing moderator, they are automated by the system. If the ninja does not agree with the reports/reason and chooses "not guilty", the post is unhidden and no harm comes to the reported user. As to the additional comment section, currently we do not see that information. However, knowing how database managers/designers think and operate, they would not have that field there if they didn't have a plan or intended use for it. So, your comments are not (currently) viewable or of any assistance to us, but they are being saved, and my best guess is that they will be part of a future feature and use.
