It wasn't long ago, of course, that PCs were hounded by the usual premature proclamations of demise heaped on the platform since its first heyday ended sometime around 2001. As early as 2005, Cnet was arguing that the Xbox 360 and the PS3 would mark the end of the PC as a gaming platform; more recently, we've heard similar claims centered around the sudden rise of social games (which often count as PC games in their own weird way) or the advent of smartphones and tablets. It wasn't as though such proclamations packed much weight; even during its darkest hours, the PC witnessed the staggering rise of World of Warcraft's millions, while millions of other players also flocked to games like League of Legends, EVE Online, and Mojang's indie wunderkind Minecraft.
. . .
It's not hard to see why folks less invested in gaming news would think otherwise, as endless piles of doom and gloom piled (and continue to pile) in with reports on the PC itself. As recently as last Thursday, research from IDC Insights added another dose through its revelation that PC shipments were expected to drop by 9.7 percent worldwide this year, marking another grim milestone in a steady slide that the firm expects to last through at least 2015. And yet, while sales of actual PCs might be lagging, revenues from games sold for the platform have shot up at almost an equal rate.
Well, duh. PC gaming is seeing the biggest influx of console gamers to PC gamers, and that's awesome. Your thoughts on the PC platform?

The best point they made in there was how easy it is to be a PC gamer these days. A hell of a lot of people these days can run a lot of PC games on their laptops, and for those who want to invest in a more powerful gaming rig, the upgrading process is made so much easier because of the internet. There are literally tens of thousands of how-tos and guides online for installing a new GPU or improving your computer's system performance, all available for free on the internet, and that makes the platform much less intimidating than it was, in the 90s or the early 00s.

I remember my grandad saying something along the lines of "nobody wants desktops, in a few years we'll all be doing everything on phones in our hands and phones in our heads" - The world's kinda weird right now and i'm not sure whether I like it or not, I just hope traditional PC gaming stays around for as long as I do.

When are you going to cover this: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/07/halo-dev-metal-gear-solid-v-character-design-is-disgusting ?

A good info graphic for this thread.

PC has ArmA. Therefore PC gaming is best gaming.
-
They say people buying PCs is low, but are they account for PC parts being bought, most PC gamers build their own PC rather than buy one.
-
I enjoy pc very much. I just can't stand a lot of PC gamers. They seem to be the biggest cry babies of the whole bunch. A recent example of this is Diablo 3 coming to consoles. It's pathetic how butt hurt most of the community is over this. Metacritic has reported that people are making multiple accounts to down vote the console version. What a pathetic joke. I do enjoy my pc though. Just the community tends to suck.

I love pc gaming it makes it more interesting. Although my name suggests otherwise

Edited by Mystical: 9/6/2013 11:11:22 AMSteam alone has plenty of gamers online. When I got to a game's hub it shows players playing the game right then. Skyrim alone has literally 30k+ on average and DOTA2 has easily 400k on average. I never have issues finding matches in games like Battlefield 3 or even mass Effect 3 for pc either. In fact BF3 on consoles is harder to find matches and lobbies that play ALL the modes and ALL the maps. I play both console and pc and want both to do well. Anyone that wants one side to come to demise and another to dominate is a fool.

just made a Steam account a bit ago. decided to buy Witcher 1&2 (Steam Sales are the shit), downloaded them. Shitty Laptop cant play them. cried into a corner for 5 mins.
-
How do you know if someone is a PC gamer?
It doesn't matter, they'll tell you anyway.
I don't really care, I'm happy using consoles.
-
Going out on a limb here but, if PC sales are declining, is that pre built PC's? I'm sure a lot of PC goers, (gamers included) just update parts of their PC's instead of buying new ones.

(no I'm not saying they are all like this) It gets annoying when I see a PC gamer online saying "PC is better! lol consoles lol old hardware I have 10terabytes of ram ;)" and when they act like all PC's are better than any console, and finally when they act like the PC cells more multiplatform games than consoles even though that's not even true.
-
Friends + Gaming PC = Glorious master race fun time.
-
I loved the way you had to explain what the word 'surging' meant for the console babbies. Classic.
-
I have friends I play with, no need for a pc.
-
I'll always use a console. I don't need a expensive computer. I like my laptop.

Edited by Vampire Nox: 9/5/2013 1:25:45 AMI still love PC gaming because there's no -blam!-ing console war... No one rags on me because I bought an Nvidia card instead of some -blam!--all other card. Other PC Gamers just give me tips on better parts in case I wanted to squeeze a bit more performance out of my machine. Or show me a better way to optimize my rig. I haven't even started on the wealth of games available for the PC (and I'm not just talking about Steam's massive library). I still love the ease of my console, but I have very definite reasons why I have never even considered giving up my PC gaming.
-
It's not though so meh.
-
I'll always have it, and where possible I buy games for my PC over games for my console now.
-
If you're a true fan of gaming you should experience it all.
-
Edited by ROFL Wolf1254: 9/5/2013 6:31:29 PMPC players are inferior because they can't afford a PC and a Console. The most highest of lel.

PC is the best way to go, it's the most powerful and most flexible gaming platform. The only downside is that the consoles have some good exclusives not available to PC (Like Destiny). Other than that, PC all the way!

Im actually in the process of building my first pc at the moment (well buying the parts).
