It records your performance in combat. Notice that in the demo, the main player got the thunderlord, while the hunter got a generic sniper rifle because she was downed the whole time.

No name to it other than "pretty cool sniper rifle" maybe it was exotic for being in the boss battle, but not to the level of the thunderlord

Once again.. we don't know anything about the rifle... I see y u believe it was not as good as the Thunderlord, but that's just a guess. The sniper rifle might have had a name but they didn't say it because they were just showing off aspects of the game and didn't go into any specifics about the quality of loot in relation to contribution. Anything in regards to loot quality is just pure guessing at this point and will remain so until they give more info on the subject.
