Getting this laptop this week as its on sale with a 200 dollar price reduction. Now seems like the time. I'll be PC gaming fairly often. My one concern with this laptop is the GPU. Can this 660 generally handle games well enough for now and for the foreseeable future?

Any computer with internet access is perfect for #Gaming.

Edited by KingWhovian: 10/30/2013 12:37:58 AMI would have to say, yes. The 660 is a good model. should last you for a few years. also if you intend to use this laptop for gaming, I'd suggest getting windows 7 instead of 8. my cousins laptop has windows 8 and he cant play shit on it. I know he's tried both minecraft and iTunes on it, and it wont let him even use them.

Just make sure to connect it to a monitor, leave it in a cool area, and connect a mouse & keyboard to it.
-
Certainly, an extremely capable graphics card.
-
I'd say so, i have one, can play battlefield 4 at 60fps.
-
Depends, my 6870 can handle anything very well. The Intel 4000 GPU (believe it or not) is very good, but not good enough for gaming. Also you shouldn't get a gaming laptop due to heat problems. >660 No, unless it's a 660ti, there's a reason it's the ti.

Edited by Spartan Ken 15: 10/28/2013 7:45:42 PMYeah, I have a 540M and I can play Bioshock Infinite on Ultra. My asus K53S Laptop still has some time left.

Edited by ANABOLIC INO: 10/28/2013 12:28:35 PMI literally don't understand the hate on gaming laptops. Like yeah they're not as good as desktops (obviously) but tons of my friends have laptops that aren't even FOR gaming; yet they can run games on high/max settings. I think they're a good idea for gamers on the go. However, I wouldn't spend more than $500-$600 tops on a laptop.

Edited by sims3k: 10/28/2013 11:35:40 AMleltop its a GTX 660 (M) M for mobile as in it sacrifices power for battery life

It's a good card, you'll be playing stuff on high for the next year or more. But like all cards it will become underpowered after 2+ years.
-
Laptops don't take standard GPUs.

Edited by Shogg: 10/27/2013 5:09:38 PMI use a 660ti, and I can say it's totally and utterly fantastic for anything on max.

I mean yeah if ur casual

It looks like you will be fine.

Edited by BACE: 10/27/2013 5:29:25 PMI own the asus g75vw-nh71 and I love it, hope you enjoy yours. also to answer your question I'm quite sure it can handle everything out right now fairly well, but isn't kind of late to be asking that? haha
-
Edited by Goatman: 10/27/2013 5:10:23 PMYes. I'm running one right now and it handles really well from what I can tell. I can run saints row 4 and LoL on maximum graphics settings and still have a consistent 60+ fps. I'd provide more examples but my PC game budget has been in the red for a while. oops, didn't realize this was necroed. sorry people

Can you change the GPU in that laptop?
-
I have one (660m) hasnt run it into any problems with new Games yet.

Edited by Quantum: 10/27/2013 7:43:38 AMDepends on what settings/resolution/framerate you are looking for. Currently, a R9 270x and/or a 660 desktop should be able to run BF3 at 1080p with only a few settings adjustments off Ultra. Any less and future games may start to be out of reach for max settings at 1080p. Anymore is moving into the overkill range, IMO. If you are looking for a gaming PC, then build it. Laptops generally aren't that great for gaming in comparison to desktops. Edit: NVM, someone necroed this thread.

Edited by Trad: 10/27/2013 6:17:58 AMCertainly. I'm running a 650m right now and still run High/Ultra on most modern games. BF4 is a breeze, Skyrim only lags when you start laying on some seriously heavy stuff. However this is usually due to the shader department, in which case it is best to get something in the 650 range on a desktop instead. aaaaaand just checked the date. Y the bumps?
-
I would say yes. It will probably last you a year before you'll need to upgrade. That's a bad thing that's beginning to happen with PC gaming. The requirements for games are moving higher at a faster rate.
-
If you're planning to play games at 720p, sure. It's great. If the laptop has a full 1920x1080 screen but, and you want to play games at 1080p, lolno. You need at least a 770m for that.

The 660 is a very good card
