UPDATE: Destiny is nothing but a hollow shell of what it could be. Bungie, you should be ashamed.
Initially, I was quite excited for Destiny. But I'm surrounded quite often by Indie game developers and have picked up on some things when it comes to PR.
That said, Bungie has tried really hard not to refer to this experience as an MMO, and has gone on about this being "Your story." The more they speak on that though, the more I think they're relying on your imagination as opposed to an actual storyline. I.e the way you defeated a boss and fought through legions of foes just to get there. And sure that's an experience you can share with your friends, but it seems also entirely misleading. My decision to enter a cave curiously and go exploring, is not a story. And neither is the wonderment I have of what happened there, before I entered.
As a writer, I play games for the story. Not one I created myself, but one that the writers have built overtop the programming and mechanics, etc. And unless Bungie can prove me wrong about this, I'm growing increasingly hesitant of investing my time into this game world.
Being brave is not enough.
