  • The ships were for the humans to escape our solar system not just to get to the other planets, but every ship that tried to escape was destroyed or we think so and the wreckage is now where the reef is and the awoken are humans who in the blast were changed

  • The ships take humans to different planets in the solar system, and moons.

I think they were just a means for people to start a "colony" on a diferent planet, but the darkness found them every where they went and thats where the the traveler came in.

  • You know what might be interesting... those colony ships could have been teeming with humans that were wiped out during the coming of the Darkness. If they crash-landed - god knows where: Venus, Jupiter, Pluto, wherever - and were used for spare parts by the Vex, we could see a race of terrifying half-human cyborg monsters...

  • Colony ships. Ships that transport people to and from the colonies set up on the planets in Our solar system. We know Humanity had colonies on Venus and Mars, as well as some Outposts on the Moon. In fact, there was an entire city on Mars. It was where the Traveler first 'landed'. But everything changed after the Collapse...

    • Dunno. I think it would be cool to have a colony ship in Earth's atmosphere, though, that was transformed from a recon to a passenger ship, and it could act as a trading post. Or, maybe, since the City is a trading post too, the Colony Ship could move around the map, and if it happened to be in Mars' atmosphere while you were on Mars, you wouldn't have to go back to Earth to trade.

    • SPECULATION! i think that story wise we probably revive some of these ships and recolonize some planets over this 10 years span. In Bungie We Trust

      • I think they were initially to bring new people to colonies but when earth was attacked I think people fled to the cosmodrome or whatever it is to escape. Look at all the traffic leading to the wall

      • Just what you said: bringing colonists to new planets for inhabiting.

      • I was thinking about that the other day, myself. I think it lends to us eventually (next book) getting a distress signal from an unknown location far out in the galaxy, and after venturing out to investigate, we discover one of the colony ships found a location and prospered, but have their own internal struggles as a community (which could infinitely expand story line) and possibly come across another unknown alien race, which will most definitely be blood-thirsty and very hostile. Just a thought...
