College finances

Well, I am college bound, I will be attending Texas A&M Corpus Christi this fall. Quite frankly, I will be going with $297. So yes, I will be on that college budget. I was wondering it there any help with where I could get money? In all seriousness. Yes, a job is the main place. I've applied at over 20 places, and nothing. And it will be too late for a job, I leave in a couple of weeks and no employer would want that. This leads back to my question: Where is the money at?!

Well, my parents did a pre-paid college fund, and have saved up money since I was young(although there used to be a lot more money in there). I have some money from FAFSA, but most of my money will be coming from the Florida Bright Futures scholarship, where, upon meeting certain GPA, ACT/SAT scores, and volunteer hours, it get so much money per credit hour. Not really sure how that helps you though.

Follow A Fly Lady's advice. My room mate in college found his job on jobsforaggies and I ended up getting a job at the same place as well. If you were at the College Station campus, I'd point you in the direction to some places to apply but I imagine TAMUCC has similar positions. While you should definitely look for jobs on campus, don't rule out off campus jobs. Some will pay more but you don't get the perks and flexibility of on-campus work (so there's a trade off). I would abandon hope of finding a job where you're living right now, though. Like you said, you're leaving in a couple weeks. Quick ways to make some cash in the mean time: sell stuff, sell plasma if there's a place nearby. As far as I know, there IS another guy on Bungie.net who goes to TAMUCC. I'll drop him a PM if he's even still around and see if he has any ideas.

  • Keep searching for a job in Corpus. Jobsforaggies.tamu.edu is a wonderful resource. I found my on-campus job there and the employers understand that you're a student and you classes/schedule come first. Your other option is student loans, FAFSA, etc. You may try and talk to someone on campus (your adviser would be a great place to start).

    • Look for a job on-campus. They should have a listing of jobs on their website. If you need something short-term before you move, try finding a friend that works at a restaurant and have them ask if you can work as a dishwasher for a couple weeks. Basically just look for jobs that require no training and have a high turnover.
