They're rewriting the story and cutting content
-
The game is much bigger than any previous Halo. People that do not understand the vast scale and goals Bungie wishes to accomplish should maybe take a step back a little. Creating an inviting persistent world does not exactly sound easy, meanwhile Destiny is constantly changing as they refine and continue to build onto the massive project called Destiny. Makes sense?
-
Because it is a very large game and they want to make sure they get everything right. They did reveal it earlier than most games would. It currently stands in a pre-alpha stage. It will be out in Fall 2014 fully polished and ready to go.
-
The "not-so-offical" dates I've seen are in early to mid 2014.

It's not ready yet -_-. They said it was still in early development.
-
If you were one of the developers, you would probably be saying, "Why can't we have more time?" The game isn't even close to being finished. To be honest they announced it early, that's why it seems like it's going to be a long time.
-
They have only just announced the game and showed a gameplay demo. I'd rather have the game now as well, but this is the approximate waiting time for a game, almost a year after the official demo. There's definitely so much more bungie have to do. Getting rid of glitches and bugs, stabilizing areas, making efficient use of the world, and that one section we saw in the gameplay demo is probably the only close to finished area in the game right now... Calm your tits and stop whining.
-
I honestly wish people would stop complaining about the release date. It makes you seem childish. The longer we wait the less problems the game will have. At least that's what one would hope.
-
To polish probably on of the best games ever.
-
It isn't coming out late. It's coming out right when it means to.
-
I'm sure Bungie want's to make sure it has no flaws and as much awesomeness as possible before they release it.
-
Because it's a good game, and more importantly, it's a big game, and it needs to come out late for it to be what we want it to be.
