Back in the days of Halo: Reach Bungie ran the Bungie All Stars contests, offering the reward of the star nameplate for Halo: Reach. Well, I entered into the week 6 contest to design an Avatar for Bungie.net, the above image, cropped & scaled down of course, was my submission.
Here are Urk's favorites, of these, Seven people received a star.
I received a star.
Receiving a special little star from Bungie, how awesome is that? I had a good time listening to all the shock and awe from people when they saw it, good times.
However, by far the coolest thing to me about winning this competition was that my Avatar would be featured on Bungie.net. My home on the internet, my game dev heroes and the community that I have been a part of for years, would for the rest of time, have my mark left on it. As small and insignificant as it may be, I would know that had become a part of Bungie.net.
Checking the avatar section every day, I was waiting for my work to be available to everyone, and when that day final came, and all the avatars were uploaded, one was missing, one very little image that was so important to me was no where to be seen.
Bungie, I love you dearly, but I am a bit upset. Why didn't my avatar make it in?

I forgot all about this! My submission was the pot on the first row! I never got a star or anything, but just seeing that pot on the front page was hilarious.

I blame Stosh

You think you're mad? I won my star in week 20. Oh yaaaayyyyyyy-aaaaannnnnddddd everyone has it now. ;_;

Edited by Valkain: 6/21/2013 4:03:52 PMMaybe because I can find fifteen other Frank Frazetta pieces and make it my avatar....

Too scary when shrunk down, perhaps?
-
Wait...you just noticed this, two years later?

In the article he said he'd send off all those images to Stosh to see which ones would make the cut. The ones Urk thought were coolest didn't necessarily mean it would become an avatar. At least that's what I'm getting from that link, since I don't really remember the contest.
