I think you might be mixing single player and offline together. You can still play single player games and be connected to the internet on your box.

They tried that with Mind Jacked... and that game didn't go over so well... Plus, some people simply don't want to play online at all. They just want to be in their closed little world and explore on their own. Just them and the game. I think that's one of the reason Skyrim was such a huge success... you could have SO much fun with a purely offline experience.

Yes but a lot of people who do not have a dedicated broadband connection like to play single player RPG's. Therefor the makers of RPG's make take a bigger hit.
