Young Adults and a "Hookup" culture - CNN
Posted by: Studness4 Sex isn't some sacred union, it's hormones and physical attraction.
So according to the research in this article, a lot of Alphas are engaging in hookups, which involves sex more often than not, and feel empty and depressed afterwards. Therefore this whole sex is no more than hormones and physical attraction is bull, because if it were true all of these people wouldn't be feeling the way they do after the fact.

  • Having sex without any emotional attachment isn't anything new. It's what I prefer.

  • A good few years of no sex will drive a man mad. I am slowly descending into oblivion.

    • I look at it this way: The "Alphas" going out and engaging in meaningless sex do feel alone. But they at least had a little warmth, a little pleasure. The foreveraloner feels just as empty, just as alone, but they didn't get no nookie. They just justify the lack of nookie by pointing out the "Alphas" feel alone... Which is funny. Sure, a relationship feels good. But, in lieu of one, meaningless sex is better than nothing. And finally, people who are justifying being foreveralone with moral reasons, are just full of shit.

      •
Of the 557 male and female students who responded to a question asking how they felt the morning after a hookup, 41% of those expressed sadness, regret and ambivalence.
And 100% of that 41% were female.

        • That's because 1 night stands are usually with people who you thought were much more attractive the night before, imagine buying Halo 3 and finding out the next morning you were actually just playing Halo 4 all night. You feel slightly dissilusioned, but its better than playing nothing!
Freitas's book is partially based on the results of an earlier Internet survey she conducted of 2,500 U.S. college students at secular public, secular private and Catholic universities. Of the 557 male and female students who responded to a question asking how they felt the morning after a hookup, 41% of those expressed sadness, regret and ambivalence.
Um, I'm no mathematician, but doesn't 41% of 557 of 2,500 student mean that only a fraction of a fraction felt that way?

            • What point are you trying to make? That some people do feel emotionally disappointed after they have sex?

              • You're all so hung up on the percentage of a percentage of people, therefore not relevant spiel that you are missing the point. Take that 41 percent and apply it to all young adults in America and that is more likely how many people this would affect. This of course only takes into effect the people who are having sex.

              • Anything that's really good done in excess and impulse within a certain time limit because regretful... For example if i try to eat 5 pizzas in 3 minutes... i'lll regret it. These people are trying to find connections within a day... Of course it isn't emotionally stimulating...

              • All it's saying is the time for 1 night stands leave people depressed, relationships have come back into fashion rather than one night stands. That's a good thing because that will stop the spread of STD's and unwanted pregnancies, I read these stats in a Generation Y research paper.

              • People are entitled to do whatever they want and make whatever mistakes they want It's up to them to face up to the consequences; it's not up to us to question these people's judgments just let nature takes it's course; Don't worry, HIV will kill them all off soon enough.... :/

So only 557 of the 2,500 asked how they felt the morning after responded and only 41% of those said it left them with feelings of "sadness, regret and ambivalence". Doesn't seem like the stats definitely support the author's conclusions TBH.
