How exactly does this utilize the "laws of quantum mechanics"?

It is insanely secure if done right because anyone intruding on the system has to measure the particles from outside the system in order to gain the information. However, the very act of measuring the particles causes their to be a change, meaning the information they get is skewed as well as we can immediately detect when someone from outside the system has gotten unauthorized access.
