That enemy you want to kill too far away to hit accurately with your fully automatic weapon? Are you going to need to avoid that corridor because you lack a fully automatic weapon? No need to fear, fire mode selection is here! Let's hear how this would be a good (or bad) idea to see in Destiny.

No, but only because I think it unnecessarily ties up a button to map said function, in a game where there's likely already sprinting and abilities. With analog trigger control and good design, an automatic weapon can be single fired or burst fired pretty reliably as it is. Rather, I'd like to see fully automatic rifles or machine guns capable of 1-shotting weaker swarm-type enemies in a weak point, head or otherwise, and seeing a lot of said swarm type enemies. Which could allow said swarm-type enemies to be deadlier situational threats if not dealt with properly. Given that Destiny will be more cooperative-centric, I hope this might be the case for some enemy types. This wouldn't affect automatic weapon behavior against armored targets and other players in PvP, just add an interesting dynamic to the mix where controlled bursts are useful for more than simply pelting Destiny grunts and jackals downrange as it were (forgive the comparison but it's b.net), when you're trying to conserve or don't have higher powered semi-auto. It's not a realism thing, it's more of a let's make the automatic weapon more versatile and fun in campaign kinda thing. There's certainly the diversity of enemy types there to support it.

    • changing the firing mode could also be a simple switch between the type of ammunition, by separate barrels ie: have a sniper with two barrels, one that fires high velocity sniper rounds and another that fires tracking beacons press a button and the barrels make a 180 degree turn

    • This should be an attachment that you would have to equip because they said most of the guns are modular. If this was automatically equipped, the game would become easy. I know you were not implying that it would be automatically equipped but I'm saying that because I know some people will want it to be.

    • I think it should be implemented, but not on all guns. If enemies have high health then fire rate might not be too big of a deal, since you want to deal as much damage in the least amount of time possible. Maybe damage on a gun would increase based on the fire rate, like higher damage while it is semi-automatic.

      • if implemented i would be ok with it. but honestly, it would work well enough without a fire mode option.
