I mean sure, a crafted gun would be better, but there's just something about stumbling upon a unique (Not rare unique) weapon on the floor, buying ammo for it, and making it your own "companion".

This whole concept of "finding a gun to make your own" is a great concept indeed. But its more than just customizing it to make it yours. Its more than showing it off to your faction members. Its a legacy -- one that either you make with it or one that it made with another and you now carry it. A perfect example is Glamdring, Narsil and Orcrist from Lord of the Rings. Each weapon while being particularly unique has a story behind it. Glamdring (The Foe-Hammer), Orcrist (The Goblin Cleaver) and etc. They were acknowledged and feared for there history in battle. I want my gun to be to the community as what these weapons were to Gandalf, company, and his foes when their eyes laid upon them for the first time.
