I'm pretty sure it was just a nod of appreciation to Grizzled Ancient Fans of Bungie, rather than meaning anything in Destiny's plot or game world.

You have to admit a slight connection between the general plot lines though, and that they seem to correspond with the titles a little bit... I'm not promising deep connections between the two, but Bungie does everything for a reason. Even the smallest nuances are usually purposeful for them.
