In light of all the speculation about release dates, I thought I would bring us back to a promise given to us last year. In response to Activision's contract leak, along with concept art leaks and whatnot, DeeJ responded to us all by changing the "See You Starside" to "See You Starside in 2013".
Now I realize he could have been referring to the reveal, but we all know how careful Bungie is with their words and I highly doubt they would give a year date for a simple reveal. This old promise re-ignites the belief that we are looking at a Fall 2013 release!
But than again, I've been wrong before...

Contracts change, schedules change and with activision announcing not to be expecting a 2013 release I'm going to go with what they said and not expect it. Also what makes a 2013 release very unlikely is that Activision will not be clashing Destiny with Call of Duty.
-
It will be early 2014 at the latest. Bungie knows waiting 19-20 months to launch would be suicide. The game will be ready before we know it. The release date has been set for a while now and we are only waiting for microsoft to come out and announce the 720 already. Once that is released the launch date will follow soon after.
-
I still believe the launch will be this year 2013.

Honestly I've been scouring the net for any info on Destiny and needless to say I haven't found much. What I did do recently however is something that i believe most of us here has already done: Read the Bungie-Activision contract. It seems that people are only focused on the fact that there will be four games and four comet releases. As for the initial game's release date... we simply HOPE that it will be released this year and instead EXPECT it to be released next year. Interestingly enough however, should Bungie adhere to the terms in the contract then we will be looking at a Fall 2013 release for Destiny, Fall 2015 for the sequel, fall 2017 for the second sequel and fall 2019 for the last major retail game in this series. The comet releases will be during the fall period of the years in-between the main games and there will be other dlc in-between those as well. What has gotten a lot of people riled up is the fact that Activision didn't include Destiny in their sales for this fiscal year. That could have been due to a number of reasons other than the "Destiny won't be released this year" bandwagon that everyone seems to enjoy jumping on. I believe that Bungie will stick to the release times that had been set in their contract with Activision and is simply waiting for Microsoft to get up off of their collective assess and release info about their next system as well as the release date of both the ps4 and the xbox 720? before they do the same.

"See you Starside in 2013" was always in relation to our reveal timeline. The ship date for Destiny has yet to be officially declared. You are welcome, as always, to speculate wildly as to when that might happen.
-
I thought Bungie confirmed the game wasn't coming out this year...
-
I agree with the possiblity of 2013 release date, remember marketing is being handled by Activision, and if you look at COD their reveal is at e3 or before, but within the year of the release.
-
Given the fact that preorders are open, I assume they've in crunch now. I still think a 2013 release is possible (especially since DeeJ made reference to the fact that no release date has been determined in the last Mail Sack), but it's probably going to be early 2014.
-
Reveal, not release most likely.
-
i understand why there are so many people that are doubtful and saying a 14 release. Saying they will wait for the game to be good and ready and blah blah negative negative. Can we all agree we HOPE it comes out this year.
-
Im sure we can wait out till early next year at least. ( though, i do not speak for the rest of the community) id rather them take their time to create this game, than rush and ruin what could be an amazing world for us to explore. Though they should also bear in mind that people's patience does not last forever...
-
Well now with DeeJ confirming it is in 2013, perhaps to actually give away the release date they will do another Alpha Lupi type puzzle, but this time maybe incorporate more of a harder puzzle, or maybe they have been dropping hints, and will continue too, and someone has to add those clues together to come up with the release date. Of course this is all speculation, and pretty wild at that. But it still would like to see more of a puzzle based around our universe (more than was already done).

I'm guessing Q1 2014. It just makes sense.

Nice try but nope.
